Im guessing they are trying to get rid of genre duplicates from both sides, to avoid making people have to buy new radios for the a la carte feature, they may be looking to just get rid of a la carte and have the same thing on both sides, just diffrent numbers..... Thankfully I am not spending much, that it has me wanting to cancel.... I pay 9.99 for XM (only music) and 12.95 for Sirius and thats for 2 cars. My Ford has a reciever and the truck with the PC I simply stream with Stream_ON. I may simply down grade Sirius to 9.99 also since the channels I listened to on Sirius are now on XM and vis versa. I wonder how they came up with these merger.... Toaster have you heard BoomBox? Now they say its in Pop2K but all ive heard so far is Pop..... So they dont seem to know differences between music styles either. I am so fumming.... They are lucky they didnt get rid of Area and Chill..... My parents listen to Chill and you know they will nag.... It seems I was wrong about this merger, we have been fuked royally.... I thought Sirius running the show would do the right thing, but I guess in the end all they care about is giving their execs bonuses, and making us listen to $h!t we dont want to. I have a webradio pluggin for CF.... I may end up just going with that and killing both Sirius/XM... First Im going to see what Sirius/XM's next move is.

PS: Armin Van Burren is now on Area, so thats a plus..... now Area has the biggest popular DJ line up.

PSx2: Relearning all the channels is a bytch, Area is a diffrent number on XM (80) then on Sirius (38), thats dumb. They have also made some channels only avaliable online.... i just cancelled XMRO so now I have lost those channels..........

Area sounds good, also now i get Radio1 - but the loss of Worldspace (The System) is a huge blow to my listening experience.

Is mixingbowl a radio station? All the shows from the system will be on area if i read on xm correctly, I have always liked area better, they play new music, the system always seemed to be behind. I am going to call them to verify. just lost on who to call.... xm or sirius? I'll call and ask XM since it was on their side. They cant possibly cancel those DJ you listed.

wow, I seem to be the minority in this thread but I like the new XM channel lineup! they didn't remove any XM channel that I cared enough about to upset me, and they added some great channels from Sirius (hair nation, radio Elvis, radio margaritaville, etc).

I was planning to cancel my subscription (because I haven't been listening to it much lately), but I think I'll hold off on that idea for now as these changes have actually gotten me to listen to XM again.

im actually warming up to the line up.... Both sides had aleast 5 dance channels (thats all I listen to), but now its down to 2. There is also Chill, but i dont like it. Now that I think of it, when I listened to XM I only really listened to BPM, which is now on both. On Sirius I really only listened to Area, which is now also on both. I do hate they killed Boom Box though. Thankfully I have Break beats and full throttle on 1club.fm to listen to.

I was bouncing around the music channels on my ride home last night. It's not as bad at the XM crybabies made it out to be. The playlists seems deeper that they were pre-merger on Sirius. They had an XM DJ on Octane and his minimalistic approach to the between song banter was very refreshing. While Hard Attack was a better name than Liquid Metal, it's still the same genera. A few channels are gone but other than buzzsaw nothing of any consequence. Hopefully they bring back a punk channel, although personally I don't miss it.

And let's face it, if enough people cancel and tell them it's because of a specific channel, they'll put it back eventually.

Well I worked last night and was in my car for 5 hours off and on.

at 4pm I always switch to the 80's to get Allan Hunter, and he was nowhere to be found then. So they screwed up the DJ timing aparently. So I was listening to the 80's and usually I hear a stupid song every hour or so, so I switch to the 90's unitl a stupid song comes on and then switch back.

Well I heard 2 songs total that I liked. XM has infused their random non-popular 80's music into the major songs from the 80's that Sirius always plays. And the worst damned thing on XM was the 80's song that no-body knows and they play it. Well now that is on my sirius 8. Nonbody knows it because it was not a good song and was burried in the pile outside with the rest of the crap, stop polluting the airwaves!

I also listened to the 90's and it like it has turned into some sort of Rap/Hip-Hop/Boy-Band only version of the 90's. Not at all like it used to be. I didnt hear a single song that wasnt pure crap.

Not to mention they are trying to combine the jingles for both stations and it just sounds horrible each time. I know the XM jingle because my mom has it, I know the Sirius jingle obviously and the new one really is just half-half spliced together for the background music.

I am giving it until monday to see if things return to normal. Hopefully they get their act together. I will be writing a scathing letter to Sirius and I doubt it will do any good, but I hope others do to. It is a waste to pay $20 a month (2 radios) that I am not going to listen to anymore.

do they know what people are listening to at any given time? I would assume it's similar to cable where they know what you're watching, how long you watch it for, when you change the channels, etc. if that is the case then they are basing their decisions on which channels to scrap, which channels to keep, and which channels to merge based on how many of their subscribers were actually listening to them. if a channel isn't very popular then its simply not worth it for them to air it.

another thing worth noting is that as a condition of the merger approval, they were required to have a certain number/percentage of channels devoted to "minority programming" (whatever that means?). they only have so much bandwidth available, so if they are required by law to add channels that would otherwise never exist, they are going to get rid of the least popular current/previous channels to make room for the new federally mandated channels.

either way, the channels that were removed altogether were either unpopular channels or had other channels that played similar music.

personally, for me the best thing about sat radio is the wide selection of choices. I listen to almost every type of music there is (the only things I won't listen to is hard-core rap and punk/metal (the kind that sounds like 15 dogs in a kennel endlessly barking with no rhythm). I would never pay for sat radio if I only listened to 1 genre of music (I would just use an MP3 player).
