I just can't see myself paying around 20 bucks every month for radio in addition to the buy in price of the equipment.............
I suppose that's why I've got an HD tuner on the way![]()
Well just thought Id pass on the information that the merger has now taken a step closer to happening. I think now its up to the FCC. I love Sirius and XM, I have both services, but currently i have not been able to use Sirius because i do not want to buy more equipment to do so. I only like 4 of XM's channels and from what I understand, the new pricing you pay 12.95 for full Sirius, then .25 cents per any other channel you want from XM side. This would be so cool..... Anyways here is a link to the site. http://www.siriusmerger.com/, I think you can email the FCC to work on behalf or against the merger.

yea but on Sat radio, there are no commercials and a bigger selection. If you live in an area that has alot of radio stations, then thats cool, you have variety. In miami though, its either spanish or rock, or hip hop. None which I like. There is one dance channel but you can only get it near downtown, and also I have a radio tunner and it sounds crappy. Shoot, I pay $60.00 for high speed internet in my car (great for internet radio and slingbox), so whats another $20.00 dollars... and actually I have 3 cars 2 with XM, one with sirius, which im also switching to XM, so I pay about $35.00 total. I guess it all depends on what you like. Id rather listen to music then hear advertisement all the time.
I like Sirius, I hate XM. I hate this merger. I know that are going to try and merge the similiar channels, and I am not a fan of the dj's or the music selection on XM. I hope with every fiber of my being that the FCC denies the merger. It is a monopoly after all, and if people can get upset at Microsoft, it is pretty obvious that this merger is fully illegal.
If it goes through, Sirius loses a customer.

well I called XM and Sirius, its not actually a full merger...... what it is, they will stay seperate programing, but say you have sirius, but you want a particualar XM channel... you can pay 25 per channel or buy 50 sirius and 50 xm for like 12.99
All the emails they have sent me and even the little blurb on the site right afterthey publically announced said that they would be "combining the programming from like channels". So the 80's on Sirius and the 80's on XM go to 80's type thing. I dont see this not happening since their bandwith is so limited as is and then introducing more video...
If this is no longer the case and they will be launching more sats to cover their bandwith problem, then I have no problem with it. Just leave my stations alone you merger people!!!!

Sirius subscriber as well, dont give a rats *** about XM, but without the merger there is less likely hood that both companies can survive.
Mel will be taking the helm of the merged company so Sirius will be in the drivers seat.
I want this thing over so they can get back to working on the video streaming capabilities.

do you guys know that sirius uses just satellites, and XM needs to use ground based repeaters?
Little factoid i found out at work, i guess siruis launched their sats further in orbit than XM did, and XM was having alot of issues, they decided to put land-based repeaters to fix the problem...shows why XM has most of the bandwidth problems, and sirius already came out with a few channels of video (used in new Chrysler cars)
We will see how this whole thing goes..
Sirius and XM both have diffrent stradegies for Sat deployment. Xm chooses to have thiers orbit along the equator. Sirius puts them into high orbit. Both companies do use repearter, especially in heavy city areas. This is a must for any type of air based signal.... Im a IT specialist and our whole building has repeaters to get wifi throuhout. Dish based devices dont because there hugeeeeeeeeeeee and can grab the signal, but watch what happens when it rains or a tree branch falls in the line of sight. Only issue i have with Sirius is that if you forget to pay your bill they wipe out your account and make you pay all these fees. XM doesnt do that. I have now replaced all my Sirius with XM... but I really do miss Area 33, Boombox 34, and The Beat 36
