CarPC in a 06 Scion TC

Hey guys, I signed up for this forum forever ago to find out more info on a carpc, I have since then became extremely busy and forgot about it. I am now in the market for a car pc, I am a DIY guy, i built my home desktop and i was planning on doing a new one, which means that i could use my old one for the carpc.
here are some of the specs:
    Asus K8V Deluxe
    AMD Turion 64 x2 mobile tech (TL-52) 1.61GHZ
    1.5 Gb of ram
    ATI Radeon 9600
Creative audio Sound Blaster Audiogy 2 ZS

then ive got my hard drives and things like that, but I would get a Laptop HDD if i did the carpc.

anyways, basically what im asking for is help on what else i need. If the parts i have laying around are good enough? and what else i need to power it, Im not very good on the whole car power thing. I do have sound system in my vehicle so how would i power that. I have a 12" JBL sub, a 1 channel amp that puts out like 300watts to the sub and then i have a 4 channel that puts 100watts to the Jbl door speakers i have. so how exactly do i get the car pc to work with those, and i would need an FM radio as well. I have searched on here for hours and hours and i have found some helpful things, but i just really need to know what else i need with it and what else i can even do with it, i would love GPS/navigation/voice(whats the best out there), definatly would love the internet. Thanks in advance. You guys have some killer threads by the way. thanks, Andy

I'd start off by listing out your questions on a piece of paper next to your computer at your desk. Go through them one by one and search on these forums for the answers. They are all here to be had, expecially the questions you've asked.

If you have really searched like you say you have, then you would have found the threads that provide the answers...even the FAQs for them.

There's an entire sub forum dedicated to PSUs for the car and another for GPS. There's FAQs concerning how to get your computer audio to your system as well. It's all waiting for you to find it. People on here don't come back just to spoon feed others, they come back to research and ask more questions after they've done the respective research. I suggest you do the same.

    Good luck.

Thats a bit of overkill for a carPC. They key thing is getting a PSU that will power it all. I'm thinking you're going to need at least the M2 PSU. The Turion chip is a lower power usage but using a both a sound card and video card that are NOT on-board will drive up consumption.

You're going to need a 3.5" audio to RCA adapter much like what you buy for a MP3 player. Moster Cables sells one and there are many cheaper ones. If your card has surround sound you'll need one cable for the front and rear chanels.

Next, for your GPS needs you'll have to pickup a GPS receiver. Nothing special in receivers here, any newer model will work. For software, I prefer iGuidance 4 by iNav but Streets & Trips works well.

If you're new to the carPC interface then you may want to break down and just buy Street Deck from mp3car.

The internet? We'll you'll need to pickup a EVOD Broadband card from a place like Sprint or Verizion and then get monthly service for it.

All of these questions have been asked and answered on the forum as Red stated so spend some time doing some research and then ask away.

thanks splash! that helps. I have been reading a ton. i come home from work each night and i basically review threads for a couple hours each night, while playing halo 3. Its just a lot of research, so i was hoping to just ask my questions and get out you know? anyways, I have notice that some people said that there are problems with the m2 psu. is the opus better? and i kinda figured that my computer would be overkill just cause all the parts, I just always worry about onboard audio and video. I have a very decent sound system that i spent some time on and i just dont want some crappy audio from the pc to ruin it. same with the video, it just get a bit skeptical. thanks,Andy

why are you worried about onboard video for a 7-8" monitor? You're not going to be playing Doom 3 on this pc or anything...it's DVD and music viz as the most graphic intensive...nothing big and fancy.

As for audio, there's a ton of ways you can do it, so that's up to you if you use onboard or not.

as for sound if you're still using the stock radio (which i don't think you are) you can hook up the output from the soundcard to the aux input in the center console, but if you go this way you will have to keep your existing head unit, as far as the subs and amps questions, i am guessing that you have a set of RCAs connected to those amps, all you would have to do to make those work with the pc is buy an 8mm to RCA cable
and hook this up to your amps, hope that helps.

i feel like a little kid when they go camping they tell you not to feed the animals because they will come back for more food and become aggressive, but being a fellow scion owner i decided to throw in a bone.

PS: my sig has a link to my setup, and if you do a search on the show off thread there is quite a few scions
