    what do you use to catalog mp3s

    I have a collection of over 4000 mp3s, problem is I really dont wanna go in and edit every single mp3 id3 tag info one by one Does any one know of a proggy that will do this and maybe even pull up some of the info from a cddb (prolly not) but one can hope thanks, also i am looking for it to split songs up by genre into different folder, I know i sound lazy but 4000 is alot to do even at 100 a day thats 40 days

    Thanks all and keep up the good werk!

    If your mp3 names are in a standard format: i.e.

    Artist - Song.mp3

    Then you can use a program like MP3Manager to add id3 tags to all of your mp3s using that information. You can do batch id3 edits so that you can add "Blues" to all of your blues mp3s.

    Just to add on to the earlier LOST threads, I have one question. To what advantage is getting rid of the ID3 tags all together? Just easier to rename and do it like that? I'm willing to change all my id3 tags, so if I am willing to do that, there are no downsides?

    I got rid of most of my ID3 tags because I have my mp3 directories organized fairly well as
    genre->artist->album
    files are artist - track number - song.mp3

    For downloaded mp3s many of the ID3 tags are wrong, contain eroneous information, etc..

    I'm debating reripping all of my cds to ogg format.. I'm not sure how tags work for that.

    i see, i think i'm finding it easier to use T&R then to use windows explorer to change all the id3 tags, maybe i'll just end up renaming them all when i'm done and not use id3 tags :> Why do i have to be so anal about my catalog!

    The Marcus Zehnder plugin only uses v1 tags, and that's why I also do.

    Some day I will rename my files according to the v1 info, I'we set up winamp so it only displays v1 tags, if no tag, just a mess of text in the playlist, and then I easily spot 'em and tag 'em

    Shinkuno, tags work fine in Ogg Vorbis files. Right now I just use WinAmp to write them, but will try some of the software suggested here.

    Dex: Let us know if you find any good software for tagging OGG files. It's a real shame T&R doesn't work with OGG's, 'cause that's what i'm used 2....

    Anyway, the only proggie that i found that supports both OGG and CDDB is:

    Abander Tag Control

    I'm not too keen on it tho.
