    Battery drain?

Okay... With a 200w HU and a 600W amp driving 4 speakers and a 525W sub, and using a new battery w/ 800 cranking amps (if that matters), about how long do you suppose I could run before the battery dies?

The raseon I ask is that I was thinking it'd be cool to watch a movie on my laptop in my car, considering the substantial sound system. But I'd rather not let the car Idle for ~2 hours.

    What do you think? Thanks!

Cranking amps relates to the internal resistance of the battery (it's ability to deliver large quantities of current in one go), and is not necessary a good indication of the capacity.

Also it will depend on how loud you have your sound turned up? I'm guessing you're not going to use all 1125W of sound power - it may make your ears bleed. Also, is that RMS, MPO or PMPO?

RMS, and the battery was the $70 one at Wal-Mart

[edit]More specifically, the EverStart Maxx, if that helps...[/edit]

Not really, walmart.com doesn't match that product name. Got a url? Without a capacity you just can't tell how long it's gonna last.

Is it a deep cycle battery? if its not, then its not good to run it down and recharge it. Regular car batteries are made to not be run down all the way alot, and if they are, then it will damage them.

if you want to run it down a lot, you need a deep cycle battery, they are not damaged when they are discharged/recharged many times.

I don't want to run my battery down, I just want to watch a movie without wasting gas.

Do you live in your car? Why can't you just watch a movie in your living room?

not a single HU in the world would be able to give 200w RMS
If it would be RMS, than power would quickly run out on your system..
    audio-amp, say 50% efficient..
so to produce 1125watts of music you would need 2250watts of power..... no way..

Ever heard off how they calculate the numbers on a HU ?
They use an input voltage that is 17-18 volts..
They use a constant waveform of about 100hz
    They don't care about distortion...
This way you MIGHT get 4x50w from the HU, but, car doesn't have 17-18 volts, music is NEVER 100hz constant..
you're lucky if you get 4x10-15watts RMS

    just a thought...

    A legitimate question.

I'm a college student and so therefore do not have a living room. However I do have a girlfriend and girls are not allowed in the guys dorms and vice versa. We enjoy watching movies and I thought that if it would not to damage to the car battery, it would be fun to watch movies in there where the sound is oh-so-nice

Well, it's winter now.. and it's cold..
    but.... when it's getting warmer..
young people w/ cars are getting together on parking lots, or near a small forest, and are hanging out the whole night long, in and around their cars.. (some play soccer outside.. while 2 others have some deep conversation in the car... )..
I can imagine that you want to show some of your friends what a really cool movie you've downloaded from kazaa (tip: search for "Getaway in Paris" on a kawasaki Ninja, that's awesome, the people who have watched it prob. know what I mean.. .. 250KPH through very dense traffic for about 20kilometers)

I've watched some movies in the car on a laptop.
my battery is 600cca and 72a normal
soundsystem is 4x40w HU and 150w subamp
after 2 hours of movie.. car started without a problem..
