You mean technology to bypass a HU and play an iPod though an amp?
Ummmm, yes, there are lots of low-tech ways to do that. I just got a hold of a Harman Kardon Drive and Play, that will do exactly what you want with the sound, and also allow you to see the ipod screen on a small separate display,
and also control the music, playlist, volume, etc via a controller wheel.
If you just want sound, you can use a male 1/8" plug into the headphone jack that splits into 2 RCAs. from there you can prety much do whatever you want.

OMG Thats a great Idea...
If thats all you want. You could put the IPOD on a charger base and take it with you everwhere(no theft). You might like it for a while but, I myself have over 6000 songs just in my truck and I still listen to xm or fm radio. While some members claim to have over 30k songs they have other sources avail. as well. Bright side though it would be a great carputer start.
