Hi,
I came across this image on the net... Pay close attention to the side mirrors. It has been replaced by a camera.

I'm planning on replicating the same concept, but not the same design. Problem here is, I do not know which camera and LCD combo I am going to use.
I am not necessarily looking for ready made aftermarket kits. In fact, I'd rather go for separate items and integrate them. Computer interfacing is optional, to reduce cost and complexity. Fabrication is not a deal since I have been doing FG and CF panels. Electronics is not a deal as well since this is what I do.
Any help on items selection?

I tried to select and hit the delete button but my mirrors are still there.
Actually, that looks very different and neat. Wouldn't have to worry about people knocking your mirrors off.
The only thing that I would see as kind of a problem with a setup like that is rain. It's bad enough that water on the mirror distorts things, but when you have something like a camera that small, it needs less water for it to be completely distorted. But that's about it.

Mind you that is Not Legal in most states. Here in WV you must have at least a drivers side mirror.
it's cool though.

ive had this in the to do list, as well as have an additional camera facing forwards so i can see up the side lanes ahead
well. im sure the exact cameras(maybe cheap ebay ones), but i figured i'd use wide angled for the normal sides, and then a normal camera for the front sides.
i seen a picture a while ago where a guy did a side mirror camera, and just replaced the mirror with a tv and had the camera directly under it. im not sure how he curved the edge of the tv though to resemble the mirror curves
there is nothing quite as good as actually LOOKing with your own eyes at where you plan on driving.
some drivers rely on just their mirrors too much when changing lanes, while this does look pretty sweet, people may get lazy and fail to check blind spots altogether..
spyghost, i cant find it. i dont even remember if i seen it online or a car mag.
and woofnstuff, i have to disagree.
i think the camera as side mirror is a great concept. in the second it takes you to turn around and look over your shoulder someone could be cutting in front of you.
with the camera, you eliminate the common blindspot over your shoulder and you can still see ahead of you at the same time.
when i finally get around to doing mine, im going to have a monitor at the bottom of each pillar that way my eyes would hardly ever leave the road.
