I'd heard of carputers for a while.
Since I wanted a GPS, bluetooth, mp3, etc all in one. I decided to start reading more into them. Here I am now.
I bought the book "Geek My Ride" from a computer book club. After reading it I looked up some of the vendors mentioned and then a Google search for specific products landed me on this site. A month later I had a PC in my car.

I thought I was so original when I thought about putting a computer in my car. then I did it, found this website, and thought 'doh!'. My inspiration really was because I hated CD's and portable GPS's didn't exist yet.
Well, I Was Insipred by KITT, from Knight Rider, a long time ago... I never see a carputer in Brazil (till I subscribe here...) And after a few research, I found MP3CAR, and start my own project.... Now I am Happy!!!!! hehehehehehe

Option D: I'm a geekI've been a network admin for 11 years and I like to play with technology. I have built a few HTPC's, (doing a new one for my dad tomorrow), and I have way more MP3's than cd's anymore. I have been watching the carpc scene for years, and I think it has matured to a point where it's quite usable. I don't want an ipod just hanging around in my car when I can have so much more.
Ya, where's the Other option? Basically I work different than most people. Most people will start with what's commercially available and work towards what they want from there. I start at what I want and work backwards through what's available, sometimes making it myself. It's why computer control all the media in my car and home.

I had thoughts years and years ago about having like a mobile office and all in the truck and being able to accomplish anything I could at home. Then while doing some car audio stuff and getting a double din HU and seeing some carpc setups mentioned/posted on caraudio.com I did some poking around here, and this thread is what ultimately dragged me into it, GREAT DEAL: 10.4" Touchscreen - Samsung LCD $215! Plus I always thought the big open flat area in a Ford Super Duty's dash was perfect for a nice large screen.
Plus I love building things and building computers, I am not much of a software guy though mostly just hardware and seeing what I can construct.
