    Lilliput repair parts

Has anybody here had success ordering repair parts from Lilliput USA direct? I need either an up/down screen drive gear or a replacement motor with the gear installed for a GL701-NP/C/T. Mine has the ever so popular split in half drive gear. This monitor is new and works perfectly other than the screen obviously can't lift itself up once it motors out. I sent them an email and am waiting for a response. If I can't get the parts then I will have no choice but to modify the unit somehow. If anyone knows where parts for these can be obtained other what I have already tried please post where. I need this thing operational like yesterday.

OK, after considerable effort and going at this again with a clear head today (I never drank last night) I managed to dismantle this thing and locate all the pieces of the broken drive gear. With creative use of crazy glue and two part epoxy, I have glued the gear back together, then used a hack saw blade to remove excess hardened glue from the teeth on the gear. After some fine filing I now have the gear re-bonded to the motor and the motor re-installed in the unit. I am just in the process of putting the unit back together and then will powering it up for a test run. I epoxied the gear to the motor shaft for extra re-enforcement of the gear. The reason that these gears are breaking like that is because the shaft hole in the gear is too small for the shaft, so when they press the gear onto the shaft the gear splits due to too much pressure. I slightly enlarged the hole so that it still fit tight on the shaft, but not so tight to crack the gear. Wish me luck.

It worked ok for short period then the gear broke apart again, Thats it, I am tearing it down and using it for a custom install. I will mount the boards inside the dash then mold the monitor into the dash. I just need to figure out what needs to be done with the micro switches to make it power up without the drive motors. I know somebody here has done this so please let me know and save me a whack of time figuring it out,

    Thanks in advance.

Hey, before you do something drastic, I think somebody found a source for replacement gears for those things.

    Check out this thread:

I hope this helps you out, Good Luck.

Thanks for the heads up on the parts place. I haven't had a lot time to spend on the forums and didn't see that post. You may have just caught me in time before I butchered it for good. I have been running some tests to make sure that the monitor would work using the screen and board only (no face plate). I was able to make everything work except for the radio tuner which I didn't care about anyway. From what I heard they suck anyhow, and I will be running a head unit in this install. I'm undecided whether to install the screen itself in the dash or to repair the motor function and use it that way.

Well after a lot of thought I decided to gut the GL701. So may people have had trouble of all sorts with these units. Aside from just the gear issues, the radio tuner is crap and the faceplate control always seems to go on them as well. I now have the screen and its board ready to be installed into the dash bezel. I have removed everything that is not required for this to function. Basically just a board and screen. The faceplate and radio tuner are now history as is the entire chassis. I got rid of the cast aluminum rear plate that served as the heat sink and replaced it with a smaller finned heat sink that I pillaged off of an old motherboard (onboard video I believe it was). The screen and touch panel function work fine, but I will have to install a relay on the red wire for it to trigger on properly without issues. The red and yellow wire must both see 12V on initial power up, then the red must be taken out of the circuit for the board to bring on the screen. I will wire the red on a normally closed contact and use my power supply's amp trigger to power the coil and break the red out of the circuit and thus trigger on the screen. The TV tuner section still works on the PCB board if I decide to bother with it, and it is controllable by buttons on the screen housing. It was a bold move to do this but I think that I will be happier with it in the end. I didn't pay much for it and managed to salvage the parts that I had hoped to when I got it.
