You can never go wrong with a SLC SSD drive as a choice. Keep in mind that SLC drives should cost twice the price of a MLC SSD drive when shopping around.
Very few people have the budget for an SLC drive. I just got a sample of an X-25M 80GB MLC and expect to start testing it on monday. Intel Part# SSDSA2MH080G1C5.

I have previously used a Calvary MLC with SATA and usb ports on it. That drive has worked flawlessly. I really think it comes down to component and manufacturering quality.

What brand and model number of MLC were you using?

there's also an issue of properly partitioning and formatting your SSD. I used the excellent info on the OCZ forums, and updated to the latest firmware. it's very easy and, again, these OCZ Vertex drives are PLENTY fast for a car pc. NewEgg currently has the 30GB Vertex for $128, plus there's a $20 rebate.
    EWF, HORM, MinLogon on XP.

A useful link on why SSDs slowdown as you fill them up and write to them : http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3531

Also why the Intel SSDs are better under these cases.

Rob Withey: That's an excellent link. The author shares the same opinion as me, small random writes and their latency is more important than the large sequential reads/writes. The article is up to date so I highly recommend people to read that before making any SSD purchases.

Here is a sweet deal on a 64GB SSD. Only $150 Canadian...which is the cheapest Ive ever seen a 64GB for.

    Any opinions?

I wouldn't buy it unless you installed EWF to make up for the slow write problems that most cheap MLC drives have.

Performance wise, MLC works fine the car in my opinion. For me the operating temp must be very low, -30*C. I think you should go with OCZ nobb, because it has the lowest consumer grade operating temp that i could find.

Bumping and old thread, I am just wondering if anyone has any before and after comparisons of system performance after switching to a specific ssd? Mostly interested in hibernation times, since all the benchmarks seem more concerned over boot or raw R/W speeds.

Im itching to jump on the ssd bandwagon, but not yet sure if I should wait it out longer or whether the results will be worth it. Newegg is selling a 64GB Kingston V-series for $135 shipped, or I can get a 32GB OCZ Vertex for about $160.

Just make sure the drive is SLC SSD. MLC SSD is bad!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought a Patriot Warp and I have so many issues with it. The stuttering is bad, installing something that too 2 minutes now takes 10 or more. If you really want a good drive, i'd go for a Mtron drive.

There is a lot of data pointing that a quality mlc with a quality control is not a bad purchase for desktop or in car usage. We talk about this in my video with intel and there are several other tech articles which support this. mlc is a great way to get flash on a budget if you pick the right brand:
