That is it.... crazy...... reasonably safe, they disconnected teh cable to let someone pass.... then resumed the game.
I guess it was because they could.

Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks some people use overmeasured hardware. Although I understand that it is a hobby we are talking about, so why not implement your crazy idea's.

I'll stick to my 133 Mhz system

And just so everyones on the same page (The whole location in the Netherlands leads me to believe that english isnt your first language) that Overpowered would be a more accurate way of saying overmeasured.

I've been thinking about this myself.

This will be my MK1 build, rather than evolution/improvement.

I'm hoping to play DVDs/DivX/VCDs for passengers, use GPS for myself, and play MP3/Audio CDS.

As things stand, I can use the Old K6-2 400/I-Will Mobo combo, with a Hoontech Sound card, and Matrox Millenium G450 DDR Dual head(TV out) that i have.

It will take up more space, and may struggle a little more with DivXs than my other choice, but I have most of these bits, and an inverter and a Standard ATX PSU could be used initially.

My other choice was to ignore all the parts I already have, buy the currently fastest Epia board combo, and some kind of power supply, either Opus or cobbled from the single powerboard converter, and a Switchedmode 12v 5amp car cord.

I know I should go with cost above everything else (for the first version at least). I even have a CDROM that I could use initially until it is replaced with a DVD player, to play VCDs. I have an Ira, and a universal remote control, plus a USB GPS widget, a 30GB HDD, a 300Watt ATX PSU, and 256meg of Ram+ a Logitech cordless mouse and keyboard which would be ideal for setting up the system once in the car.

All i'm missing is a Case, and a Screen (would prefer VGA, but would be able to accept composite if needed).

Do you reckon a K6-2 400 and at least 256 meg of ram with the G450 would be sufficient for a full Multimedia carpc, as it is just border line for a full multimedia Home PC. Gaming/3d won't be an issue,a nd the Matrox has DVD acceleration, but the TVout can't be used under Linux.

Well just install some software and test what the system can or can not do. About the DVD's, I don't know if 400Mhx is sufficient, considering your matrox card i guess it is possible, just try

Ow, and about the TV-out, don't say you can't to soon http://www.bglug.ca/matrox_tvout/

I found it searching for "G450 TV out linux" in google....

I like power, so Im using a 1.6gig athlon chip. along with a integrated gforce 4mx440, which most would call overkill. but I also want to be able to display gps software without ANY problems. also DVDs. 1.6gig is way more than I need of course, which is why Im underclocking to 1 ghz, letting me save power and heat, but if NEEDED, the power is at my finger tips.

I gave up looking for the solution, other than on the Matrox site, about 18 months ago. And all Matrox keep saying is "Can't be done, won't try it".

I had heard some talk of using a frame buffer drivers, but it was still very basic when I heard about it.

Will investigate more, because I believe that the Deluo USB GPS can work under linux using a kernel module, and the Ira that I have is directly acceptable using Lirc.
