centrafuse is too expensive... its just not an option for me or many others i suspect. its ridiculous to pay for as much for a front end as you do the whole operating system.

as far as control- one thing that has worked very well for me is a basic media remote-

    http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Slim-PC-USB-...d=p3286.c0.m14

reason is, its basically the same as my pioneer deck remote... so im already more used to grabbing a slim remote to change volume and tracks then doing it any other way. this is plug and play, and you can do everything you need to do while driving with it, no eyes taken off the road at all. my touchscreen feature is not much more then a occasional convenience... its just so much easier to use a remote.

Centrafuse is $62.50, because they have been having a sale. So it really isnt that much. I could never imagine using a car pc without CF.

/me hands out a bunch of LinuxICE2 alpha CDs and runs away.

It's the OS plus other CarPC software for what... Free!

    LinuxICE2 "Anino" Alpha1

CF is 62, but normally 2x that price. You will also still have to buy Nav software. Add in the cost of Windows XP Pro and the total cost of ownership goes up even more (probably around 300+ in the end). Anyway, I'm not trying to say you should not try it, or that you shouldn't use windows. But I'm just throwing out that there are much cheaper solutions out there as well.

You are right, there is a hefty cost involved, but you know what, most people spent a good amount of money on their setups. Yes you have to buy CF, Nav, and XP, but in the end it has a very high compatibility rate, and CF is so easy to use, right out of the box. So I guess in the end you have to choose between convenience, or tinkering till you get a setup you like. My setup is already a headache and the fact that CF makes it easier and worth its use, makes me forget about the hardware issues.

Gotta agree with you on this one, I am considering trying out CF myself. If I remember they have a 30 day trial so I might check it out. My CarPC is finally in my car but there are still several problems with RR that I can't fix yet.

I still dont understand how someone cant get RR setup. Download the wizard, push next until it installs and shows finish, choose your music path, restart and done. Works out of the virtual box every time. I have gone through a few iterations of the CarPC because I like changing it (more fun ) and each time I just run the wizard and it works.

Oh and kev, it is FREE too.

Your also heavy into programing Toaster! Your the d@mn creator of fusion brain for crying out loud, lol. RR may be easy to set up, but once you try to get into the advanced features, it isn't just point and click. CF is!

    , yeah.

But I havent done a thing to RR though. Havent even made a skin. And everything works fine. And if you use a skin like DFX, all those advanced features are point and click. There is even a skin that looks like CF.

OMG..... how dare someone copies the CF skin..... LOL... I wish someone would make a LSX Void skin for CF. I know once CF3 comes out, it will have the ability to use flash and all the transistions like LSX Void.

and with rrconfig, it really is as simple as just selecting different options, and pressing save. so far i have not done any programming, or even tried to learn any(which is kind of bad). and hey, if a programming illiterate person like me can do it, than there aren't too many people that couldn't learn(though i should say, i tend to go out of my way for legally free things).
