Having Electrical Issues Again. . .

So I dont have a clue what is going on. This started just last night. Im playing music everything is working fine, after a few minutes, the subs stop playing and then there is a nice hmmm in my door speakers. Also usually following this my left door speaker will come in and out almost as if it is a short of some kind. Anybody have ideas of where to start?

The sub amps (sundown 1000's strapped go into protect mode to. . .

It worked on the way to dinner, but no on the way back. Also my computer screen will also just shut off, then come back a bit later. All of this happened last night after dinner!

Is the CarPC working ok? It sounds like either the AMP isnt getting enough juice (maybe your using the wrong gauge wire) and or the AMP is dying.

Yes the pc it self is running well. The screen did not turn on last night after dinner, and today i pulled out my dash and everytime I would move my dash the screen would flicker.

The amps are cool to the touch and are not running at their max so I sure hope its not my amps.

If I was having power issues to the subs or amp, why would it be happening after me running the system for about year?

I dont know if this helps at all but I did take off the connector to the battery and pulled out the 12+ going into the amp that said protect, and I then put it back in to make sure it was a solid connection and it made a shock. I dont know why it did this since the other end was not connected to the battery!

sounds like a short somewhere. if it was only the amps going into protect, that would mean that it would be after the amp, but it is affecting other equipment, so I would have to say that you need to check your cabling for pinched wires--esp. to that left door speaker.

I had something like this a while ago-- sub amps would work fine for 2-3weeks, and then just stop working-- I ended up finding out that I had pinched the sub rca wire in the sill panel-it was blowing the inputs on the amps--it cost me 3 amps and a radio...

Edit: I had typed the above, and then had to take a call, so i didn't post it until you had updated the thread...

So to clarify, you removed the - lead from the battery, unplugged the + lead on the amp, and then hooked it back up and it sparked? It sounds like the amp is ok (it is standard for this to happen with the + lead, that is why it is best to remove the -lead from the battery, and remove the fuse from the amp wire.). but, there definatly is a electrical short somewhere, possibly more than 1. the easiest way is really to just follow the wires from the parts that have problems.

Being that it worked fine for a year, I would say that there is probably a issue with poorly made splice/connector that has worked its way loose.

That could also be the issue. I know yesterday I tested a cable with a volt meter. It had always worked before but now its dead. It rests under my center console and at some point it shifted and pinched the wire in half. I would say maybe your car isnt putting out enough power, but if that was the case, the PC wouldnt turn on to save battery power.

So I checked out alot of my wiring, I found that one of my wires going to the drivers side door from my amp was pinched but not piereced.

Not sure if this was dumb of me but I puled the rcas out and then I turned the truck on and I was gonna plug them in one by one and see if its a certain rca problem but as I was putting in the first rca, as it hit for somereason the sub amps went into protect. (The rca I was plugging in was from the head unit to the door speakers. Does this tell me something, or did I just not realize that all the amps went into protect?

I only have 2 runs of rca cable, 1 set of two for the subs from the head unit, the next set is 1 set of four and that goes to my door amp. They both run the same path. I checked and no where did I see these pinched. The only place I didnt check was where my rear seat belt is only because its a wide open area under there so there isnt anything to press in on that.
