    Got motherboard today, having problems.

I got the Intel motherboard and M4 ATX power supply in the mail today. So I hooked everything up including the SSHD hoping to begin installation of Windows XP.

I tried using the CD drive from the desktop as a temporary drive to install XP, but it said "No bootable device found, insert boot disk and press any key" or something like that.

I tried connecting the hard disk from my desktop computer but then I get a blue screen asking me to restart the computer.

    What am I doing wrong?

Any number of things 'might' me the issue.

Check all the cables: power, drive and such.
    Unseat then reseat the RAM
    Try a desktop power supply.

That is where I would start. I suggest doing all of this at your desk and not in the car, in case you are not already doing that. Be prepared for working on this awhile until you get it right. Do not rush and if you get frustrated, walk away and come back later.

I have already reseated the RAM. I have played around with master/slave settings in the BIOS and changed the jumpers on the hard drive and CD drive. If I put the jumper to "cable select" and don't have the correct IDE plug in the drive, it will hang on a black boot screen with a still cursor.

Cable select is known to do that.... My suggestion is not use that setting.
If you have been changing BIOS settings I suggest returning it to defaults and try again.

Defaults were reset and still the same thing. It's not recognizing the XP image on the hard drive or the XP CD in the CD drive.

Well, either you are missing something or some part is not right.
swap out each part one at a time with a known good substitute (if you have one).

try a different OS disk, you might even try each of your new parts on a different PC to see if they work.

If all of that does not point out the issue, start RMA process.

I contacted Intel Tech Support and they said the board I'm using won't work with anything older than Windows XP Service Pack 2, and I happen to have XP before SP2. I'll try SP2 and see where that gets me.

that's a SATA drive - you shouldn't be doing anything with IDE settings such as master/slave or cable select

The problem was with an IDE drive I hooked up.

Ok, figured out the problem. The motherboard doesn't support anything older than XP SP2, but it started up the install when I tried my brother's XP SP2 disk. So I ordered Windows XP SP3 off Ebay. It'll come at the beginning of September.
