i have received the refund.
i called the 510 number, may-b it is cheaper to make it in Brazil, but honestly i really dont care if they ship the item from brazil, or from Zimbabwe, 1 thing for sure is that i am not sending them a copy of my card lol. also i though of a possible 3rd interfearance with this transaction but after double checking their information, i dont see a possibility of that, also my system is very secure with 2008 server, the only thing i can think of is the security of their computers and a possible data leakage from them.
BTW, no refund has yet been issued to my account.

I agree, this is standard practice. When I take a guest into the Hotel, I make an imprint of the credit card for room charges and incidentals. I also make the guest fill out a card that allows be to charge their card if they are to leave without paying, and or destroy anything in the room while occupying it. We also get a lot of international reservations and people that want to prepay for a room. They are faxed an authorization form saying that we can charge their card in advance, and the form must have the correct address, along with a photo copy of the card. This is how the merchant services tells us to do this. They say the more info you have, the less fraud and disputes we will have. So far its held true. Before I implemented the card that they have to sign for damages and stuff, we lost every case. One time I had a guest kick a $500.00 dollar hole in the bathroom, and I lost that case. I then had a guy that dragged a 100 pound chest across a antique floor and it made bad streaks. Because he signed the card, he lost the dispute.

hijack, i understand this practice perfectly.
however in a hotel you are trusting the occupant with $30K of property, not to mention the little items that are in the room. this is a completely different scenario. i am not renting this device, and leaving a deposit in case i damage it. i am purchasing it..
