has anyone used/seen/purchased linux for ps2?

    http://www.us.playstation.com/hardwa...SCPH-97047.asp

$200USD gets you USB keyboard/mouse, vga adapter for ps2, network adapter, 40GB internal hard drive (connects using the network adapter) and the linux for ps2 installation disc.

I've heard some good things about it.. but nobody could give me any practicle info on it. I wasn't really planning on using it for incar.. though I suppose that's an option. I thought it'd be a nice desktop alternative.. so I don't have to have my beast running all day just so I can chat, check email etc..

mp3car system is currently FUBAR and finances do not allow for a correction of that situation

works great, there are differnet versions - from what i hear the ones requiring a mod chip work best. Linux on the Xbox is a better option in my opinion though.

i just checked out that kit --- BIG RIPOFF. I thought it included the playstation.
You can buy the hard drive and usb stuff and download a linux ps2 cd off the net. Just do some googling. Figure in 2-5 hours research to feel comfortable with setting it all up and to know what you are doing. If you have no previous linux experience get some of that first. There are much more cost effective linux solutions for a car or htpc though.
    Better (my) solution:
    pcchips m758lmr+ - $50
    celeron 1.1 - $40
custom case - blood sweat tears
    40 gig HD - $40
gyration rf keyboard and mouse - $60 ebay

now that is the same price and a much much better system.
Ad far as I am concerened running linux on a ps2 is just for the fun of doing it and the cool factor. Running it on an Xbox is a bit more costeffective but still more of a cool hack than useful.
