VIC Ltd, upgraded Navisurfer 2 double din unit

    Hi,

Am a newbie to car computing, just freshly registered.

Have been conducting lots of research into various options for fitting a carputer into my 2007 Ford Fiesta, and have been quite impressed with the idea of double din ready made systems as I have a large amount of space within the dash if I remove the existing head unit.

I noted on the forums on here from ages ago some mentions of the Navisufer 2 double din unit, which is made by Vic Ltd. The original unit, referred to in the old posts, has been updated with modern Atom based chipsets etc.

I was wondering if anyone on here, other than the original posts, has any knowledge or practical experience of this company or their products or any general advice about double din units like this.

    Cheers

i am not a big fan of all-in-one dd carpc's.

they are usually a couple years behind the latest, and fastest tech, so speed is usually a issue.

there is also the driver support-- the all-in-one unit that used to be sold here is a great example of this--now there is no driver support whatsoever, and the parts are failing left and right, and people shelled out at least $2k for it not even 3-4 years ago... now, they can't even get drivers when the hdd fails...

i would highly recommend either building your own, or buying a prebuilt, standard computer motherboard-based system. the reason for these options is because, first, the hardware is going to be supported for way longer-- i can still get drivers for a asus motherboard built back in 2000..

the other advantage to building your own computer, is that when it fails(and it will fail eventually), you will have a better idea on how to repair it.

computers are really not that hard to build at all--i think that there are enough resources online, that it is almost as easy as putting together ikea furniture.

hi dreadnought, from what i hear the product is solid however i would warn you that their customer service is poor to say the least. i ordered a car pc from vic ltd about i year ago and it has never came. i have sent many emails, at first i received a response stating it had been sent. then i was told it was being processed and then that they were "looking into it" and "needed time to check the problem. after that i have never received and communication despite many emails simply asking to be contacted.

    BE WARNED.

    EB

just a warning to people considering purchase from vic ltd, that i purchased a computer early 2011 and the car pc has never arrived. i am a reasonable customer and have tried to contact them multiple times with proof of transaction etc. do not buy from this company.
