USB touch screen might be an easy way, depending on the front end. What does RR do as far as second screens?

any of the linux systems allow multiple screens?
Not at all true!!
Some front ends like om were designed from the ground up to be multi-zone...others like cf have some dual-zone functions added.
OpenMobile will be releasing our new linux version in another week or so. Multi-zone is implemented although a few small features like multi-zone radio are windows only atm (patch should be available soon).

Four would be cool, one for each door. I was planning to put in a standard volume steeringwheel controll, but I cant figure out how to make that look good, so a little joystick on the driverside door would do the trick just as good (dont have to look at the screen atleast). How many do you need? Like what location are you putting them. You can easily mod the pad to put your own buttons. Your simply using the keypad as the brains for the controls. So you could use the buttons like RipplingHurst has pictured then the wires go to the keypad.
I could use the brain, yes, but then it would be easier to just buy regular tiny-buttons, then do some soldering with some resistors before hooking it up to my phidgets board. It is alot easier for me to use phidgets instead of finding a new USB port to use.
I'm using CF btw, but I really can't see how touch screens would be easier here. First off it would be alot more expensive, it will be more work and I have to find more screencards. Just for the purpose of changing and pausing songs it seems kind of overkill.
Could you explain how these works? The cheap one you linked just looked like a fancy button :PNow for switches, you could try the über cool NKK programmable ones, like these:
I actually thing a joystick would be the best way to go. For the driver seat I could simply put a small on/off button right above the joystick, if you press it the five different actions the joystick can do, is now to something complete different, this way I can navigate pretty easily on CF without seeing or touching the screen too much.
I found this one: http://www.phidgets.com/products.php...roduct_id=1113 which I guess would work pretty well, the only problem is that it seems like the circuit board have to be visible aswell![]()
Seems like the phidgets joystick need seven cables hooked to the phidgets board in order to work, it reason for it is that the joystick can detect thousands of positions within its movement area and this really don't work for me![]()
Going wireless would be my vote. Just get a mini wireless keyboard likehttp://store.mp3car.com/Mini_Key_USB..._p/com-103.htm or even http://store.mp3car.com/Mini_Wireles.../com-108-b.htm then use something like this http://www.avbrand.com/software/superkeys/ to remap the functions of the buttons. Then just physically relabel the keys on the wireless remote accordingly.
I actually have that exact keyboard though I use it as a regular keyboard. It still doesn't suit me though. I want that joystick![]()
