    new and need help!!!

i'm curious as to how to install some type of drive that holds and plays mp3s in my car. there is the kenwood keg, but that is expensive and i would have to get a new head unit as well.

if i get an old cpu and upgrade the memory, around how much would it cost to hook it up to my car? what components would i need, just everything... i'm basically clueless as to what i have to do.

in case it helps, i have an 03 mustang coupe with the factory radio, no mach radio.

As a former newbee myself, I will spare you the wrath you will most likely receive from others for not doing any searching. First off the first thing I would recommend is to start reading these forums to get an idea of what you want to do. You can spend less then $100 and up to $1000 depending on what you want to do. When searching keep these things in mind:

    Screen (VGA, TFT, LCD)
    Control (Touch, Touchpad, Mouse)
    Power (DC_DC, AC_DC + Inverter)
    cASE (Custom or Buy)

Just start reading and you will get a good idea and then ask more specfic questions and people be more then willing to help you out.

i have been searching, just clueless on what to do. first i need to get my hands on a desktop or a laptop hopefully free or cheap. i wanna use it to play my mp3s and possibly later in the future for dvd play. i saw that i can use the palm III for controlling winamp.

i can spend about 400-500 bucks on this system.
what are the minimum requirements for the computer to run winamp and dvd play in the future?
with the palm III, i save myself the trouble of getting a screen for the current moment right and i can use it for control as well?
i'm cluess as to how the power works with the carputer but i will start reading on this now, i've been looking at people's projects on the web and hopefully by the end of the summer i'll have a working project as well. any help on how the power works would be apppreciated.

i'll prolly get subwoofers later on as well, will that affect the computer if they are both in the trunk?

i only know how to use a comp, i don't know much about the inner workings of one. this is why i'm asking for help, if ur not gonna help then don't waste ur time posting. since i'm sure u know everything about everything.

alright, about the palm III, if i plan to just use the comp for just mp3 play for the moment will having the palm III be enough to control winamp or whatever application i use?

If you do not know anything about ANYTHING search. Use google, if that does not help ask jeeves. If that fails, use our search feature. If that fails then post threads. But dont waste our time and bandwidth with stupid "oh I dunno what im doing can you help me threads" If you do not know what you are doing then do not even bother. Carpc is pretty technical, and you will run into roadblocks, but your thread is plain stupid and asking for flames.

I'll help you if you let me call you a Jackass.

It works this way. Post your questions, and number them for easy replies. I will answer, and then I will call you a jackass, and so on. Like this:

    You say:

    1.What's your name ?
    2. Do you like cheese ?

    I say:

    1. Frodo...jackass

    2. Very much....jackass

And after I feel you are worthy, I won't call you a jackass anymore, ok ?

This is not a joke, I'm serious. It might be fun even. At least it will make the thread a bit more enjoyable.

    Man, You guys are rough......

CubanMoses, guessing from your knowledge, I would offer this advice: Unless you really want to learn alot of crap about computers an what not, buy a new headunit with an AUXILLARY IN and then hit Best Buy and get an I-POD or Archos Jukebox
    to plug into the port......

I would suggest checking out different user's personal pages. This will help tell you what others have done and give you an idea of what you would want to do. If you take time, read all about it, learn and be patient, you can have a great setup for about 400-500. The more information you have before you start, the better it will turn out.
