I recently bought an October 2008 Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. It uses CANBUS, which seems to get in the way of any aftermarket HU kit I want to fit.
I can go into further details, but does anyone know about and can advise me on how to proceed with CANBUS?
I can say to you, have fun. ;) This is the reason that I haven't replaced the head unit in my 2007 Chevrolet HHR, the stock one is too tightly integrated with the rest of the vehicle electronics and replace it (although possible) means losing:
* adaptive volume
* turn signal clicks
* warning chimes
* steering wheel controls even for cruise/trip odometer (iirc)
However, there are companies that provide interoperability adapters for factory systems, Metra comes to mind. They make a GMLAN integration module (GMLAN is a protocol that runs on top of CAN bus) that reenables warning chimes/turn signal clicks/adaptive volume for late model GM cars. But it costs like 200 dollars IIRC.
I have no idea if one exists for Citroens.
I hope this helps. :)
i am on the same boat....
i am buying a 2011 Ford Fusion SEL (comes without SYNC DVD Screen). It comes with 12 sony speakers and stock amp and I wanted to use those alongside steering wheel controls but CANBUS seems to get in the way.
I`ve found on ebay a 100$ "Radio replacement interface Wire Harness" that seems to do the trick (it even have a wire for IGN so i wouldn`t need to cut mine for startup/shutdown controls -- 3 yr warranty will not get voided).
But yet I havent got my car and still building my project at bench so looooooooooong time yet to come before I put it on the dash :)
Search over ebay, you might fish up something.
Just lash a resistor onto the sensor circuit. You'll need to look around for the correct value.
