What can I use to fill a single or double DIN Space?

I have an '03 Nissan 350Z which I am planning a car pc for. My car has a cubby in the dash where the factory navigation system would go. This is where I plan to put the touch screen for the car PC. Once I have the car PC setup I will have no need for the factory stereo so I'm trying to figure out what I should put in that space to replace it. There are adapter kits available for my car that will turn the factory radio space into a double din slot or a single din slot with a storage cubby.

It may be nice to turn the entire space into storage, but I've search around for a while and have not found any generic double DIN storage pockets/cubbies. Does something like this exist?

Alternatively it would be nice to have some kind of physical control of my CarPC. If I need to turn the volume down quickly it's much easier to twist a knob then poke at a touch screen. Likewise it would be nice to be able to toggle through the functions of the PC (radio, music, gps, movies, etc) by pressing buttons rather then using the touch screen.

I've also considered placing a second screen in this space. I know it's possible to run two screens with two video cards, but is it possible to run two touch screens? Don't the touch screens just plug into the USB like a mouse? I don't want to touch one screen, and end up clicking something on the other screen. Do any of the front ends support multiple screens like this?

my car came with a double din opening, but had a single din radio installed from teh factory-- so there is a single din cubby below it..

i have not seen any double din cubbies..

    there is something like this:

i tried one for a while, and i wasn't happy with it-- the volume control was sluggish, but the songs scrolling across the front were kinda cool..

You can use two touch screens in most cases, when you touch one, the cursor/selected app will be in that one.

I would use two touch screens in a heart beat, wait a minute, I do already :-). You could also leave the secondary one without touch, it will be clearer and easier to see that way unless you go for two capacitive/transflective screens ($$$). You would leave the non-touch one for maps, album art, visualizations, OBD gauges, etc. and the main screen for the buttons/menu control.

For physical control, I would use a JoyCon EX with a Sony Remote stalk. For volume control a JLAudio CL-RLC - it introduces no noise and works as a pre-amp too. Both (about $45.00 each) have dedicated threads on this forum, I use both with *outstanding* results.

    Hope this helps.
