current laws exist, but they need to be enforced. there is no excuse for watching dvd's while driving. or talking on the cellphone with no headset, or eating, or reading a book etc. american drivers are **** poor at it as it is, distractions don't help.

I just thought it was interesting reading, I already know the laws. I plan on having dvd in my dash, but not to watch, unless stopped, I want it to listen. Say throw in a eddie murphy or robin williams or richard pryor dvd and just laugh my *** off.

Plus my wife gets bored in the car, I can throw in dawson's creek and she'll be happy for hours !

I don't think I could ever watch a DVD while driving..it'd be like watching TV during sex. You should just pay attention to the task at hand.

Also, most of my driving(I'm sure I'm not alone) is 20 minutes or less. It'd get annoying watching the first 20 minutes of a movie and then having to leave everytime.

I live in Nebraska, and I'm not sure what our laws are on this subject, but my buddys lexus has a big LCD in the dash for CD controls and such...so I'm pretty sure I'll be OK if I just want it for mp3s...right?

    alright..I'm done now.

I'm from Ontario (canada), and I'm not sure if we have a law like that. But I don't agree with it at all. We have the cell phone law and I agree with that one. Here's why:

I've had cell phone conversations while driving (not proud of it) but I do find it very distracting. I've also watched Family Guy episodes on my dash LCD while driving for 17 hours and I didn't find it distracting in the least. I can realate it to taking your eyes off the road to check your speed. Its that kind of movement and just as fast. You're mainly listening to it. That 17 hour trip went by so fast with with it and I was totally focused. A lot more than if I were talking on a cell phone.

I don't know if I'm alone on this.

I know that there are companies that are doing major research on what the majority of people find distracting. I think it has a lot to do with the individual being responsible about knowing what makes them wreckless. Just like people should know how much booz they can handle.
I personally would get pretty distracted watching Family Guy (love that show) but I do pretty darn good on the cell phone. I would also find myself super distracted by stuff like the Milkdrop winamp viz. So I designed a very simple, high-contrast mp3 skin that only gives me a dozen huge buttons, track info and a progress bar. I also only adjust my playlists when I am at the side of the road or at a stoplight.
Everybody is different that way, heck some have trouble driving and chewing gum

In 13 states it's legal? Which states are legal. I have no clue about mine (delaware). some people tell me i can use it for GPS only. Others tell me it's flat out illegal to have it.
