there might be a option in the realtek software to 'enable rear fill' but that is the only way i know of to get it to work that way.. but none of my boards had it, so i've only heard of it's existence, so i couldn't tell exactly where it is..
I'm running RR on windows 7 with on board realtek high definition audio. Until I get audiomulch in place I just want to have the rear speakers output the same as the from without using a splitter. I tried searching around on Google and couldn't come up with a good solution. Anyone have any ideas?

not possible... (with just reltek controls)
technically copying the front audio to rear is WRONG, but thats what we do in CAr audio
SO OPTION #1
SOME software has to tell windows(which is written for THEATER audio) to send the front to the rear
(virtual audio cable + audio mulch) would do it, but complicated
also.. u could do it for a specific program, say foobar2000, there is a nice output channel mapper plugin
same for winamp called vista sound, but buggy and i think its messing with sample rates... so im not sure of SQ
i have no simple solution...
funny enought, someone could make one
just need a virtual soundcard, that does the pcm buffer copy and sends to say, front and rear
one thing you do need to do is set your output in realtek manager to 5.1 then DISABLE; center
(side pair, becomes rear pair)
REMEMBER WINDOWS/PC AUDIO MADE FOR HOME THEATERS!

Thanks, I had a feeling this seemingly simple request wasn't that simple. I realize rear fill in a home theater setting isn't correct, but it is a popular option as most people are after being loud more than proper stereo imaging.
I have thought about using foobar with a plug in but I believe it has one major limitation, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, but it would only work for audio originating from foobar, where using audiomulch would work for all audio, like blue tooth phone, navigation, etc.
My rear output is used for my mid bass speakers and until I get my sub in I'm just going to use my crossovers on my amp. Once I get my sub in ill be forced to do full active. Maybe I should just stop putting off the inevitable and install audiomulch now.

course, solutions is audiomulch...
or somone smart write a virtual sound card
audio mulch with virtual audio cable
i played with it got it working wasnt too bad, nice thing is you can put VST componenets in play
like 31 band eqs
basically you set windows default playback device to the VAC...
something tells me this isnt perfect too

Hi
I havnt done this yet so its all theory![]()
download the full k-lite package http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
install it and then in the startmenu you will see a configuration folder in there is the "ffdshow audio decoder" app
run this and in the mixer tab you can set up a custom matrix, which should allow you to mix what channels go where. You can also select to expand stereo to surround ,what apps use this decoder in the directshow control tab..there is even winamp section
Cheers
Wozza
is that supposed to add to the realtek menu system or is it a separate program that interfaces with windows?
no, it's not the 'best' route, as it still uses the WDM drivers-- the best route is supposed to be while using ASIO drivers-- they are supposed to have better clarity. i tried both, and i couldn't tell a difference..

best would be a custom driver, but with everything really requring digitial signatures
only mfg can afford to do this..
and they not going to for the small carpc niche market
many more people use pc for gaming and HT than funky car audio...
a pc controled external audio dsp system would work![]()
