Thread: Cheapest way of installing "Android" in my car?

Tablet + velcro? Haha.. it would work, just depends on how pro or ghetto you want it to look. Or you could get a single din HU, one of the spacer kits that blanks out the upper, screw a hinge into the blank upper and attach the other side of the hinge to the tablet. The tablet could cover the HU when you didn't need it and a short headphone to headphone cable could link the two together. Get it usb power somewhere and you're done. You might have problems with it bumping the buttons on the HU this way though, so get some rubber feet to attach to the HU so it clears. If you attached it with magnets or velcro somehow you could also take the tablet with you when you got out of the car.

Again, its ghetto, but if you did it right it wouldn't be THAT ghetto. I sorta doubt you'll find a double din mounting kit for a tablet as they vary in size a lot and I dont see a lot of market for something like that.

Not sure what you expect in terms of professionalism when you're not willing to fabricate anything though. I'd say just take a stab at making something custom, just go find yourself a 2nd dash bezel at a junkyard so if your project goes horribly wrong you don't end up with a ****ed up car.

Tablet installs or mounts can be relatively inexpensive anyways. For the most simplest cheap solution just mod a double din kit for your car to hold your tablet. Thats what I did. The only thing you have to figure out is if you want to keep your headunit or not. The rest depends on what you decide on.

Ya I've been thinking about installing the kindle fire that I never use into the visor of my truck. Would be nice for displaying cameras, video, nav, whatever. Not sure if there's a kindle compatible gps unit anywhere, but I suppose I could use DLNA from the main carpc to put just about anything on the kindle's screen.
