Tizen Is Not realtime. But it does have some Of Those Features.

automotive message broker direct necessarily need tizen. tizen does have it by default and a Web rumtime framework that gives Web apps access to it.

so it has a lot of the stuff you want.

Hey trip, I just glanced at the site, is it a specialized kernel or what? I ask because I wonder how hard it would be to port it to ARM devices.

There is a team that does the ARM ports of Tizen IVI. They typically port releases so there is a lag between developments. It's hard to get a generic kernel for any AMR device. It typically requires enabling the specific ARM platform and recompiling.

Automotive Message Broker (AMB) is slightly easier to run on ARM. You just compile it for ARM. I installed ubuntu on my beaglebone and compiled AMB natively.

Quick project update, I have been going back and forth with BennY- and we have hashed out a lot of details, and BennY- has done some really good programming already. I will be ordering a Pi and an OBD cable soon to do some testing with, but I am really happy with what we have going.

I think this will be a really good solution.

What's the point to this when AMB already exists? Why recreate something someone else already created?

This is a really interesting thread. I've been humming and harring about doing a project very similar to this with my vehicle with possibly a few more as I'm a vehicle accessory fitter/mechanic/auto electrician so I see quite alot of potential for this. I built a very primitive carPC many, many years ago with one of my older vehicles and have been out of the game for quite along time so technology has advanced quite alot by the looks. Ive done a bit of programming with visual basic when I was back in high school along with some Game Maker coding which is pretty much C++ I can gather. But HTML5 looks quite interesting too. I did touch on it using DreamWeaver back in high school but didnt know you could create program out of this or GUI. What program or 'editor' do you use to do this? Sorry if I sound like a noob, I'm just getting back into it all. lol.

What I wanted to do with my car was have similar functions to what you had but would be more leaning towards a 'voice recognition' integration to activate some of the basic functions of the vehicle including turning radio on and off, head lights, blinkers or indicators, possibly cameras (reversing and/or forward facing), all with an image of the vehicle on the GUI showing if a light goes out things like that. Was also considering integration of bluetooth with devices including mobile phones to develop a playlist of music instead of having it saved on the HDD also with a USB port for portable HDD's also.

Im looking around the web now at various OS's with quick boot times, and most are leaning towards Linux, or Xubuntu. Ive never actually used this OS or any other OS other than Windows (yes its pretty sad) but it doesnt look all that difficult to navigate by the looks. I can't remember where I saw it either, but Im pretty sure I used to own an ASUS motherboard with 'express gate' or something similar which allows you to integrate a program to the BIOS or something similar to that. I may be wrong. Im just throwing out ideas to quickly boot up the PC.

Also the BeagleBoard looks like a really good candidate too.

i also use windows cause of the superior voice control. but i think there are some voice control additions for micro-proccecors this days.
Just an addition. my car had no diagnostics whatsoever on it. so something build to monitor ECU would be prety usless. but, with the help of arduino, and pretty simple coding, and maybe some custom sensors, it was very easy to have an "ECU" just for monitoring the car status. just throwing that out, because in my opinion, most people with carpc, are not driving new and high-end cars, but rather older ones...

I really want to fit in the middle there, if you have the onboard stuff already, then you can tap into it, if not here is how you build custom modules using open hardware and make it work with our backend software.

I believe we will be integrating Automotive Message Broker into the project as well to help this out.

Seems that collaboration on an already existing wheel would be better than creating your own? Especially this early in the design phase, forking it or something. Just curious.

Ahh. That's what I like to hear. Now I'm extremely interested in the project as tripzero's AMB doesn't make any sense to me at all.
