Audio cutting out
Lately when I start my computer the audio is not working. Both on board audio, and USB audio device. I have to reboot the computer a few times for the audio to kick in. Once audio kicks in there is no problem. Has anyone experienced this, or have an idea?

No, it has nothing to do with the audio system or wiring, I should have been more clear. I mean audio doesn't happen at all on the system, literally doesn't play not just a matter of not producing audio. Besides my app, if I play wmp the song doesn't even progress. I click the play button, it registers that I clicked play, but the time doesn't progress. Audio doesn't play. You might say it could be the wmp class itself, however, I don't even hear the starting sound of win when this happens.
I didn't look into device manager because it is not an auditory playback issue, although i guess it couldnt hurt so ill look there next time it happens. Its just dumbfounding. Any thoughts?
Sunds like you might need to do some troubleshooting when it's in a state w/ the audio not working.
It sounds like there might be a driver that didn't initialize properly.
How would I go about doing that type of trouble shooting? I can see a drver not allowing me to hear things, I cant think of what type of driver prevents actual playing of an audio file. What would you look for if device manager says everything is working?
Well, not knowing your system, I'd start by looking in Device Manager and seeing if a device doesn't load, specifically one or more audio devices.
I'd also look in Windows System log to see if there's anything in there that may help identify the culprit, such as /DLLs not loading and that sort of thing.
Since you have two audio devices, you might try disconnecting one and seeing if the audio is more reliable.
Are you running any vendor-specific utilities and/or control panels? Most audio drivers provide something like this to access more advanced configuration options.
Ok, it happened again. Every thing in device manager is as it should be. The option of disconnecting one of the audio devices is not possible. Tis because my main is a USB optical sound card, but on really cold days <40', it won't work on start up, so the system defaults to the factory stuff. Ill have to wait until the temp is regular >50'.
No there is no external control panel or vender specific software. (Behringer USB optical sound card)
When I'm in windows logs, there are five categories, which one should I focus on, and what do I do with the info (yes, I do realize that's a vague question considering the situation.)?
what kind of pc. what chipsets ? do you have any usb dosked ? unplug everything that you can and boot to see what happens. this sounds ( if it is a hadware problem ) like mobo problem.. also get in safe mode and check device manager. also check if ( when the problem occurs ) if you can enter in the audio device properties from tray icon.
in case that the mobo's chipset has an auto detection on the backpanel audio be sure to uncheck ( no automatic detection ) .
