    Post input needed....

Hey guys I'm redoing my setup and while I was driving home from my parents tonight I got a brilliant idea, move my head unit to the current location of the lcd (last item in the center console) and then remove one vent and move the 4x4 buttons and put the LCD in the dash where those items were, here is my question tho, I'm a little paranoid about someone breaking in so I could either try to make the LCD removeable like it is right now or make a cover for it that would make it look like there is no radio even in the vehicle, do you guys think that would deter someone? Making a cover out of thinboard that has car carpet or a fiberglass panel to cover? Or not?

wow, i dont know how you would fit it in the 4x4 control spot. heres what my interior dash looks like (ford explorer). i want to take out the cig. tray and either make it so it rolls out and i can flip it up, or mount it flush up against it.

yeah razor and i have the same dilemna...i think youre in the same boat. i was thinking about making a new ash try cover that housed the lcd. my explorer has one vent above the cd player and on the left side would be where the 4x4 and low gear buttons would be but i dont have those. ive popped that panel off alot...you could easily mount something there. its just a piece of plastic with a vent behind it...easy to get wires to it too.

Yeah I wanted to make it come out of the ashtray at first too, I've measured it and I can put my LCD where the 4x4 and vent and radio are right now without too much problem. Just worried about someone seeing it in there and trying to get it, I mean the vehicle is a POS but I like my equipment :-D

Maybe the rust will scare them off enough

You can get fake head units, which are designed to look like the cheap nasty radios which came as standard in the 80s.

They look quite realistic, and nobody would want to nick one of them.
And you say people actually pay money for M$ Windows?

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)

during the summer i removed the ash tray and tried to fit my 5" parts express flip down lcd in there. if it wasnt for the large housing it would have fit perfectly. all i needed was like 1/2 more room on one side, then i could have had it slide out. that opening is probably like 6.5-7" wide.
