Then when Sprint finds out you are abusing it they will charge you for it or cancel your account.
I don't know if y'all know this or not but let it be known that you can surf the web on the road! This is great for those long trips ... but please pasangers ONLY!
Check out my project on my website at http://www.basten.us
The SprintVision is the only network that has the capabilities of charging per MB and for the most part they can't tell the difference if your surfing with your XDA or Laptop. I have heard of one person that "abused" it using Kazaa and got charged, but he still had his account. I know a guy at Gomadic and they have not heard of any other cases out of the thousands of cables they sell. SprintPCS, Verizon, and other don't care because they use your minutes. I have been using it for over 2 years now with no problems!
I have been using SPrintPCS too...
I think my first post was more sarcastic than anything...
I have heard of people being charged and Canceled because of overuse. I don't worry bout it. I only use it when It's needed, which isn't too often.
Oh, and BTW the cable I use charges my phone at the same time...
I hope you're not trying to advertise for gomadic.com I'm pretty sure that commercial users must contact the administrators first before posting ads. The 200kbps is BS. As of now, Sprint will never never connect at 200kbps even at peak, nation wide. Maybe in test cities. If they do, please show us how. Max burst that I've recorded was 19.6Kbps which equals about 156kbps or 196kbps if you're counting starting and ending bits. I have the exact same cable that the site is selling for my Sanyo 5300 so it's not the hardware issue. Currently GPRS phones max at 56kbps so I dont know where you get "Sprint, Verizon and others" to connect at 200kbps from. The price difference between Vision and non Vision plan is $15 not $5. Also didnt you already posted the same info on your projects thread? why double post? Also this whole internet in your car crap has been discussed many times. There's already a current thread about mobile internet.
NEW complete and updated My project with 100+ pics on 7-4-03
If you have a Shuttle FV24 motherboard in perfect working condition for sale, please PM me.
Most GPRS users will hook their mobile phones up to laptops etc anyways- it's pretty much the only way. The concept of mobile internet through cellular network isn't new and has been discussed many times before and most business users have been doing it for years. I was just taken aback by the 200kbps claim- it does seem fairly steep! And all for $5...???? If it were true, I still wouldn't worry about abusing the airtime anyway- I mean, you'd probably have to be sat in your car with the engine running draining your cell phone battery to really make the most of it.
Just to correct a few things...
Vision is free IF you have a plan that is $100 or more.
And if you get the cable I got you wouldn't drain you cel battery because it charges the phone through the USB cable.
And BTW SprintPCS currently has the fastest wireless internet through their service but I still don't think you can get 200kbps sustained while surfing.
For $100 I would expect to be able to abuse it then....
Yeah you would think!!!Originally Posted by Spaghetti
I think it is because Sprint sells the PCMCIA connection cards for laptops and charge by the amount of data transfered. So, they have to find a way of closing the loop hole.
BTW here are a few links as to what may or may not happen IF you do abuse it AND get caught:
you guys are right about the Verizon account that costs $100 but I also think there is an option where you pay a fee and it comes out of your minutes. If you have the phone and already have web enabled then give it a try, the next time your on that long trip and want to quick look for local event calenders, weather, or resturants you will also think its way too cool. What can I say ... I am a nerd and proud of it.
