    Idea for turn notifications

Often I have my music up so loud that I miss the audible turn notifications on the GPS software, and I don't always notice when something pops up on the LCD, so I was just brainstorming and came up with this...attach a small vibrating component to you're steering wheel, and hook it up to the computer via some sort of controller, so that when a turn notification pops up, it vibrates the steering wheel. What do you guys think? Any suggestions on what could be used to control it?

Well for that fact you could hook 2 devices up to the steering wheel one on the left and one on the right... that way if your in town you don't necessarily have to look down to know where to turn... but you should have some way of easily turning it off because I'm sure that would get annoying.

You could use the motor from a force feedback device... some how hook it up to say a usb cable.... or something like that... but again you would have to have a controller and I would also assume you'd have to write some kind of software to interface your GPS software w/ the controller..... because map point or co pilot wouldn't know to send a signal to the usb when it needs to turn...

    good idea....

How about this.. Pretty similar to what R3l0ad said. You have a vibrating device on each side of the driver's seat. If a left turn is coming up, your left cheek vibrates. If a right turn is coming, your right cheek vibrates.

No idea how it would be interfaced to the GPS program though.

So what would happen if you miss your turn, does it continue to vibrate or would it stop... cause if we go w/ cafn8's idea then I'm sure there would be alot of people intentionally missing their turns!!! LOL
