    clifford G4 wizzard?

Hey, i was woundering if anyone here had experience with the clifford G4 wizzard interface. I'm looking to tie the car security system into my computer and I don't want to spend the money to get the new g5 setup. I'm running windows XP, and do have an rs232 port. there are some auctions on ebay right now for the interface cable and software...

    Thanks,
    Rob

The software is freely downloadable from the clifford web site

the interface is only available from official suppliers or second hand AFAIK, I did contact Clifford IK last year to see if a USB version was available, they said yes and it would be released around the same time as the software but that was supposed to be last July. I do not know how acurate this info on the USB is, If you need more I would go to Clifford direct to be safe

no way to make your own rs232 interface cable

A dealer told me theres some special microchip inside this little adaptor and sold one to me for 50...they didnt even give me the pro version of the s/w. I opened it, and all inside is an RS232-TTL converter costing 1. I only used it onced to reprogram my window controller.

You can build one using a MAX232 chip with 5 capacitors. Theres only 3 wires on the clifford data cable...RX, TX and ground. This signals then goes through the RS232 chip then into the TX, RX and ground of the PC serial port. Theres 4 converter in a chip and you only need to use 2 of them.

The chip is powered by the available voltage on the com port...best to use an external 5V supply for compatibility reason. Get the software from the clifford website.

I havent built one myself as I dont need one

    sounds a lot like this:

    http://www.btinternet.com/~e2one/lcd/lcd.htm
used as a converter for an LCD I was looking into.

I'll attempt to make one in the coming two weeks once I've got the security system installed. I hope i dont fry anything
