Do you mean the engine cooling fans keep running to cool the motor after it is shut off, then once the fans shut off, your carputer dies?Originally Posted by BoraXP

Ok, thanks for clarifying that...Originally Posted by BoraXP
I have a 02' MKIV and haven't had that problem with the stock battery and stock electronics in the car.
On the other hand, with testing my computer and related hardware, I have run into problems with my stock battery rapidly losing capacity in the cold when it would otherwise be fine in warmer weather.
I installed a Optima Deep Cycle Battery and it is holding up better for me. Only disadvantage is that you need to slightly modify the battery tray to hold it. (Atleast I did in my GTI, other models may vary)
The fact that you are not using an Opus is interesting by itself (not,) but considering that there are a dozen or more possible alternatives, information about what PSU you ARE using would be far more helpful.
Have a similar problem in my MKIV, running the PW-70A w/ ITPS. Are you running of the AUX in the trunk or did you hard wire to the battery? I stuck a volt meter in the AUX, and found that it a very crappy +12 Volt line.... ie everything up front in the car gets power prior to the AUX supply, so I'm planning on adding a extra battery (12v .7Ah with a diode) under the hood and hardwire the power to the computer...Originally Posted by BoraXP
This will get done when the temp in NewEngland goes above 20°F, in other words it's to fu**ing cold so plastic breakes when working on the car.
VWTronics
i have a 0 guage running to the back powering my amp and computer
i figured it was the battery becuase on version one of my setup it used to run fine
then i took the car to the dealership a few times for some work and they drained the crap out if the battery
ive tried recharging it but it wont hold a good charge
im thinking of buying an optima yellow or red top
or maybe even doin a second battery with an isolator
i have a friend who just bought a new battery that weighs less than a pound and has a foot print of about 12*9*3
so yeah
thanks for the help even with the unclairity
and i dont have an opus becuase i dont want to spend 190 when i got my 70a and a mucha for under 80
even though i can throw a rock and hit opus's windows from my house

The real root of your problem is that the PW-70a isn't really suitable for automotive use. I would be willing to bet that the unregulated 12v is dipping and spiking all over the place - bad news. You really need a new PSU with a regulated 12v line - and I don't mean a simple linear regulator like on the ITPS, this will only make your problem worse.
A new battery might be an acceptable patch-up solution, but it isn't addressing the root of the problem. When the shinyness of the new battery is gone, your problem may return.
