Question Try to get THX 7.1 souround soud out of my Carputer

Looking for some help developing 7.1 souround sound in my Truck. Have all the audio just need the right output device; sound card/sound processor/etc. And dose any one know about ac3 decoding? Also have had trouble interfacing hardware and software regarding these issues. Any Ideas or help would be great.

new audigy 2 zs cards should support 7.1 surround. i have the zs gamer for $125 and it handles that, although i don't have 7.1 speakers, so i can't help you with that, but i do know it supports it.

The only true 7.1 suround sound is the Dolby Pro Logic IIx which currently only avaliable in a Yamaha RX-V1400 and V2400 THX select certified home receiver that you can buy off the shelf right as I'm typing. in a few weeks, other brands will follow.

No movies are encoded in 7.1 so I dont see the use of 7.1 surround. In a truck 7.1 surround is useless. in a large room of at least 15'X20' designed for home theather, I can understand. You're better off with a 6.1 surround as there are many movies encoded with DTS ES 6.1 or Dolby Digital EX 6.1. Blade II and Final Destination 2 are encoded in 6.1

Even if you find a movie that's encoded in DTS ES, it may be a DTS ES matrix in which case the rear center channel is matrixed off the rear surround speakers. Only the DTS ES discrete is a true 6.1 surround.

THX is not a surround sound. It's a certification. Dolby Digital and DTS on the other hand are. If you designed a home theather using ALL THX certified component, DVD player, receiver, wires, speakers, it will sound exactly like a THX certified movie theather at reference level 00db. That's what THX means.

AC3 is an old name for Dolby Digital 5.1 so they're the same thing.

If your sound card is capable of DTS ES / Dolby Digital EX 6.1 you can use 1/8" mini to L/R RCA adapters to connect the sound card to the amplifiers. You will be using the OS's volume control.

If you have the money burning a hole in your pocket, you can buy an Alpine F#1 Status PXI-H990 processor. It is the only processor on the market that's capable of decoding DTS ES 6.1 surround.

Currently there's no THX certified component for car use.

BTW, just because you hook up 7 different speakers and a sub in your truck doesnt mean it's 7.1 surround. All 7 speakers must be able to play its own track and not matrixed off other channels. That means you cant put a left and right speakers with 12 15" subs and call it 2.12 surround.
