I have a 60gb 16mb cache Toshiba in a usb case and it works fine with my M board.

What happens when you try to connect it? Mine NEEDS a lot of power, it has 2 usb connectors to try to draw more power from the board. My via doesnt have much usb action going on, but if you have a few devices, you may just not have enough power to power up the drive. Try externally powering the usb, or try one of the other usb ports. May help?
