    Hi,

    Anyone tried this app??

    DVDIdle helps you to extend lifetime of your DVD drive. By using Smart
    Read-ahead Cache, DVDIdle saves DVD data which will be played soon onto
    hard disk cache or RAM cache, and feed it to DVD player then, so that
    DVD drive can take a rest. For example, a 6X-speed DVD drive will only
    work 15 minutes when you are watching a 90 minutes DVD movie.

    DVDIdle works in the background to provide Cache for DVD player
    automatically. With DVDIdle's help software DVD player like PowerDVD,
    WinDVD, etc. are able to provide smooth DVD playback while DVD drive
    is sleep!
    It might save some power ??

    Well I don't think that it can save power: the peak power will be the same when it read from DVD.....they're sayng that their cache can keep the DVD running less than the average while watching a film (makes sense) saving unit life. What involves carputing instead: using the HD as a cache for the DVD keeps the HD running (reading / writing). I think that in our cars we want the HD to run no more than what it's needed to aviod damage.
    My 2 cents: I don't really think that extending the DVD life worth adding risks to HD....

    I have to agree with BeamRider. You might be extending the life of your dvd player at your hard drives expense. You don't use the dvd player as much as your drive, and I don't think you would have to worry about the life of your dvd player too much unless all you do is watch movies in your car.
