mount a cheap digicam and hook up the output lines to your comp and use a a webcam in a smaller window. zoom to desired distance and tap the shutter button so it just focuses straight forward BEFORE you start driving and at regular parked intervals if you want. Point being, that the focus SHOULD stick with most camers. not perfect but at least you geta closer look. or you can hook up a periscope through your roof. this way you see OVER the truck in front of you and can turn it 360 degrees (just kidding)

Perhaps a different take on the "cop cam" idea.

Rather than lookin for cops...perhaps one that can be VERY obvious incase you're pulled over...an "over the shoulder" shot that has an obvious view of you and whoever's outside your driver's window...maybe with what's on the camera showin on your lcd.

Would give the officer in question reason to be a bit more courteous...I've seen some real jerks in my time...but then I've seen some that were nice as hell too.

Maybe a non-tech option might work. I've seen some trucks out here with some sort of square magnifying lens stuck to the back of thier rear windows. Looks like one of those cheapie lanses you put infront of a small TV screen so older people can see a bigger picture. Might also work for a car winshield, i say might because the rear windows on a truck are usually nearly upright but a winshield is usually slanted.

Well .. I read the first 2 pages before I realized it was a 2 year old post .. LOL ...... It was an interesting thread.... but parksgm got some speed issues or something ... which is really surprizing to me since hes from Texas... I thought they liked everything BIG and F A S T down there.

As for Zoom ... well ... sorry but that is kinda stupid ... I get dizzy ZOOMing in on my fish tank while standing still... LOL ... I can't imagine.

But the cop frequency detectors are an awesome idea and definately doable .... but when you do it ... I wouldent tell anyone what you did ... I would just make the "cop detector" and sell the hell out of it on tv.... and please invite me to the "I made that million" party :-D

Until that day - I concur - a radar dector is good .... but cruise control is even better Besides with all these cool toys whats the hurry

Hay! our system was 98% acurate. The only problem was the 2% of people that got stoped and questioned for a couple hours. Some people look the same!

Here i found a pdf file of the pelco match system

edit2: I think there is still one at the Fresno Airport in california. FAT

Another thing. Almost all home video camcorders come with stabalization and zoom features. Just buy a cheap one off ebay. I'm sure there are millions for sale. not like people use there old vhs style video cameras anymore

edit: crap i was at page 4 before i realized it was an old thread..........!!!!!!!!!

Edit one more time: If you could use a stablizer software and license plate recognition then all you would need to check for is government numbered plates. i.e. 0010201 and such.
