how to make LED flash?
For all the electronically inclined people out there... I have an LED that I would like to make flash (its for my carputer standby), so I'm wondering if there is a timer or something like that in can put inline with the LED to make it flash?
Any thing like that out there?
Have you looked at Radio Shack or Auto alarm dealers.
Someone sells an led that plugs into 12v and will flash...is that what you want?
Also there is a simple circuit using a 555 timer chip to make one flash.
I had two links to circuit designs but they are both broken. Try a google search.
Try partsexpress or electronic goldmine or such... there are plenty of LEDs out there with built-in flash.
Using Napster,(rarely) Imesh, ScourExchange,(scratch that one, too), Gnutella and Freenet to load up my MP3-ized WebSurferPro... in my '96 Civic, of course :}
**Update - WSPro is now in the rec room. Working on a new box for the car.**
Current TEMPORARY setup... I-Jam -> Cassette Adapter -> Head Unit. PATHETIC!!!
the problem is i already have a nice led i want to use that doesn't flash.
i think i might beable to whip something up with that 555 timer chip.
Don't use the 555 timer. Use the LM3909. It will flash a LED with 2 external components from as low as 1.5V.

That looks like a better chip. It has been discontinued though... non of the electronic stores around me carry it.
