    whoa guys... (hosting related)

alright, you all know i'm offering free hosting to whoever needs it.

the problem is, i just recieved an email from my webhost saying i'm at 93% capacity.

Alright.. i have a 500 megabyte capacity, and 10 gigabytes of transfer (bandwidth).

together, fantomas and moremods have used roughly 350 megabytes of capacity, and 2 gigs of transfer. (not that i mind on the transfer end, because i generally use less than 1)

I deleted some relatively unused portions of my site, so i now have about 50 megabytes spare...

I'm not gonna cancel the service. But i do need your guys' help in finding creative ways to deal with this space problem. I know what they're being used for is a service to the community, so i dont mind hosting it...

If no more big files get uploaded, then there wont be any real problem. just lettin ya all know of the current situation.

If I may ask, how much are you spending each month for this? I might be able to get you a better deal with more space.

Maybe you could make a donation page, and people could donate you money, then you could get a little more space.

i dont care about bandwidth. i'm well below a 3rd of it used right now..

besides, pictures are relatively web-optomized. noone's uploading bmp's or tiffs or anything like that. so that accounts for less than 30% of the site bandwidth.

what you could do is recompress all the JPG files to a slightly less high quality. For example if you open images taken from a digital camera in photoshop and re-save them as JPG with "7" or "8" image quality, you will bearly notice a difference in quality, but you will save alot of space (it usually goes from 500KB to 130KB on a BIG image).

Also... ALL movies that you are hosting (if you are hosting any) i guarantee you I can compress down in size alot with nandub smart bitrate control divx.... microsoft's WMV mpeg4 format is inefficient crap and a waste of space.

let me know if you need any help. for one company I did exactly what you are talking about... they paid me and I brought their site from 120MB down to 45MB with some efficient file formats and compressions.
