make sure your xbox is connected to the net, then simply highlight the file you want coverart for, and press the white button. XBMC will go out to the net and find it automatically and download it to your xbox.

that only works for albums and movies though, the xbox games cover art was manually download and inserted.

i recommend getting an xecuter2 lite. they are the simplest chips to install and work with. Save yourself the trouble and do NOT get a solderless chip. The pogo pin adapters are garbage and will mis-align if you breath on them wrong.

    $30 but slower shipping system-mods.com

$49 but mega fast shipping, this is who I use modchips.ca

I don't mind paying the extra $20 for the peace of mind. Ive heard of people having problems with system-mods.com. Ive never had a single issue with modchips.ca and with thier fast shipping you will get your chip in a matter of a day or 2.

i have done both the solderless and sodered. the solderless is a pain in the *** to get the pogo pins right. on some xbox motherboards its fine, on others there is no way its going to sit correctly on there.

i was thinking of doing the xbox in the car, but i was stopped since i love to wardrive so much. :-) I will be selling one of my xboxs soon with the solderless chip to make some money back for this hobby :-)

did you do any fan mods to your car xbox? I would think heat would be an issue cause it has a puny 6V case fan and heat sink ONLY on the CPU

I had xbox in my car with the solderless chip it was pain in the *** for real. Everytime i system hit the chip moved. i had to play with that little green light to come on eveytime. i got tired of it thats why i am putting pc now.

personally I havent done any on my own, but ive seen a bunch done. i dont think its too nessasary because you can edit the fan speed in the bios. from 1.0x (default) all the way up to 6.0x. of course this will burn up the fan quicker but it makes a HUGE difference in temperature when running in a hot spot such as a vehicle.

I usually run my fan at 2.5x and it drops the cpu and motherboard tempature by about 10 degrees on average. as long as the cpu is under 65C you shouldnt experience any kind of lockups from heat.

it's a lot cheaper just to flash the onboard bios than to screw arround with darn modchips!

Hmm I wonder if Linux has any GPS software?
you can always run Linux instead of XBMC

its also a lot more dangerous. if you screwup the onboard bios, not only will you never be able to play on xbox live again (not that it really matters for a car unit) but you will be forced to install a modchip to get your xbox back up and running.

Linux runs terribly slow on an xbox being that it only has 64MB of total system ram its not really ideal for an OS. Loading mplayer and all its codecs on top of that is just a nightmare all in itself.

    Wink

You are wrong even if you screw up your onboard bios you can recover from it if you know what you are doing.

I fixed a lot of people's screw ups cause they had no idea of what they were doing.

yes, but the only way to recover from a bad tsop is to purchase a socket adapter for the tsop and lift/refit the tsop AND eeprom chip as seen HERE, which is not practical due to having to purchase one in the first place, and can be a major pain in the *** to solder properly. (Trust Me)

Why do that when a simple modchip is cheaper and 10x easier/faster to install and also will allow you to fix the onboard bios once modded anyway?

Im trying to keep the thread as straight forward and simple as possible, to concentrate on getting an already modded xbox to utilize an lcd with xbmc, not to go into the extreme technicals of the xbox modding process.
