modified xbox instead of a PC?

I just don't see why people would spend a crap load of $$$ on a modchip that can come loose and cause all sort of problems when you can flash the onboard tsop with any compatible bios file.

As for fixing a bad flash you are way off my friend you make it a lot more dificult than you have too! You just need to have a steady hand and a 29 wire tsop hack and you are back in business.

I have been doing this for a while!

I'm thinking about going the x-box route/car PC route. I'm having trouble with my PC TV-out not displaying correctly on my monitor. I'd like to find out some more information about x-box modding. Where's a good site to start?

what about the possiblity of installing linux and running some sort of media app on that? It would seem that a ts driver should be available.

This is basically what is done when modding an xBox for a car or otherwise.

It would seem. Find one and I'll give you a dollar. If there was a touchscreen driver for an xBox Linux, I think just about every n00b would have one. To be honest, I would too. I think xBox is just about the perfect hardware platform for a carputer. The only thing it lacks is a 12v PSU, however it runs fine on a square sine inverter.

if it were possible to use the touch screen with xbmc, it would be perfect, as for gps, you can nearly instant boot wince on the xbox too, so you could use destinator, only problem is there is no mouse support as of yet.
is it possible to boot the xbox, without the green blob startup screen ? is itp ossible to go straght to the dashboard ?

w. a modded bios there is no flubber animation, only the x, which can be modded to any color of your choice

Ok - few answers.

I have not played with xbox-linux as of yet, but I know that the Xenarc/GAIN module is built into the kernel.

Xecutor3 is the only [xecutor series] chip that allows skipping of the blob.

it also allows you to do lots of other cool stuff, like change fan speeds. like five fold. check out teamxecutor.com for more info.

If i had my screen [and a girlfriend the wasnt so wallet-draining], i probably would be able to get it working great as a carputer. even the frontend i am writing works on an xbox.

but anyway, time for beer and bed.
