They can't.

No service is being stolen.
The protocol is not encrypted.
This is simple reverse engineering.

Also, they can't discontinue the xmdirect, the userbase
is huge.

Its also on the frontpage of slashdot. Looks like Hybrid will be selling a crapload of cables. Do they make each one individually, or are they having them manufactored?
