So I was watching the local news tonight and they did a short bit on a company that is putting computers into cars. I believe they said the packages will run $2500-$3k.
Here is their website http://www.carxpc.com
the one thing i noticed was their software doesn't even compare to what we have here. The computer mounts in the trunk and there is a screen up front. They are located pretty close to me and i'm gonna try to talk to them.
For example it looks like they don't even embed windows media player. I know for a fact they just launch power dvd for showing dvd's. The lcd looks like a re-branded lillyput.
On a plus note the president said they are more targetting the traveling business person that wants to connect to his office and such.
I've been in the scene since the start and its always interesting to see business's get started up

No video/dvd lockout either, which technically makes it illegal to have. If you are going to sell systems like this, this is a must. Lawsuits just waiting to happen.

It's a little tricky to do that with a carputer I think... But, like you said, it's a must when you have a bussines like this.
Easy on the guy, it is not like 2500 - 1000 = 1500 into the pocket, if you have ever had a business (my wife did) you will know what it is like to maintain a place of business, utilities, stock (very expensive), rent, payroll, permits, taxes, insurance and in this case, after sale customer support (e.g. replace broken display).Originally Posted by BoyNextDoor
It all piles up real soon. I don't know the guy but it is not pure honey like you think. Power to him if he makes 500 to 700 in profits. Oh, did I mention labor, that thing called "time" spent putting the thing together and then installing in the car.
All our carpc projects cost a hell of a lot more, we just ignore the fact that we spend the "time", which is money.
This should be a sticky only 'couse of this post.Originally Posted by kingtut
