The harder you work on it, the more you will appreciate it.
And anyone who says their setup is 100% done is lying to you. I would hope that everyone on this forum is striving for something better.

I've had my setup working well for over four years. I sold the car and it no longer fit, but am working on round two - bigger and better!

I still have some, not in the car.... sitting in a box. Likely he was meaning 3.5 being the standard desktop size.

the way I see it....this is still a new hobby. There are not companies out there like Alpine, JL, MTX, etc that have a ton of money to dump into research and development to make a CarPC equivilant to car audio. The same thing happened when Car Audio first got big. Do you ever remember having friends (or maybe even doing it yourself) who put home stereo parts in their car? Once the industry took notice they realized that there was an unmet need out there in the market and that they could make money.

If you are so worried about it, don't do it! The trial and error is part of the enjoyment of this hobby. If it was such a simple thing to do it wouldn't be as desireable, nor would it be as cool or as much fun! Not everything in life is a walk through the park, and that's what makes life interesting!

funny thing is,in a few years it will be as easy as installing an alpine system, it almost is today....

Imagine before usb & plug & play, when you had to add & cofigure ports, asign adresses, configure irq's....you guys don't know how good you got it now, liliput's HA! I would have killed for something that easy years ago, my first pc install was a 10" monitor "picturetube type" from some sophisticated cash register or something, tube by sony, ran 800x600 res. & cost me $500 at the time & took up my WHOLE center console.....today it's MUCH MUCH easier.......

yeah, don't I suck..... , but I never used the term "back in my day"

the point I was trying to get across was that it is much easier now than it has ever been, & getting easier all the time. it won't be long before an install in a car will become considered main stream, & more & more dedicated periferals specifically for automotive installation surface all the time,it's almost a bolt in today, sorry this offended you, I'll try to avoid that in the future ..........

my point was also that plug & play everything, usb, & dedicated stuff made for our aplications like the opus & the little 12v lcd's also brought this around to the point that it is much easier to do. It wasn't always so.....besides, how do you know that I'm not old enough to be your grandfather ........
