Wouldn't it be funny if you just didn't know to go into Power Options and enable hibernation?
Well it started off as a nice 4 day weekend finally some sun,, just bought a 3Gb hard drive off ebay and the guy lived near me,,, cool picked it up
brought it home was working fine,, all day in between meals formatting,, installing.. decided to go xp since i feel its always booted up faster than my 2000 pro. Installed sp1.... codecs, front end frodo, MC many others......... it was a little sluggish being 4200 RPM but just before i was about to put it all back together
i realized,, this version of XP does NOT Have hibernate.......... i didnt know that was possible but apparently it is
b4 i pulled the pc out today on the 120GB i had i was using 2000 pro with hibernate,,, time saving is amazing,, i couldnt live with cold boot everytime
i guess ill be reformatting,, and going back to 2000 all night...
just one of those wasted days,,,, i thought id share with everyone
BTW- i got a 3Gb Laptop drive for the OS and proggies,, everything else will be on the 120GB 3.5 in which i converted to USB so it would be much easier to update frequently, JIC you were wondering,, " is he really going to use just a 3GB hard drive?¿?"

What are you talking about? XP has hibernate. You to hold shift when you are on the shutdown screen and stand by will turn into hibernate.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your motherboard has to support it. I don't know any version of XP that doesn't have hibernate.
I came across this while trying to find you an answer:
If your system doesn't want to Hibernate, check your Windows folder for a file named nohiber.txt. This file will contain information why Windows won't operate Hibernate.
In most cases, a suggestion will be offered as to how to proceed and be able to use hibernate.

but as for this version not hibernating,,,, its apparent to me its not supported as the original pc this xp version is installed on doesnt support it either,, i just went and checked,, i guess i should of done that before i installed. I just figured all versions supported it. It would seem it would be as simple as adding files....changing registry...ect ... but no one even knew it wasnt supported in some instances
i browsed through some boards but no luck

What version do you have?
Found this on Technet:
"Hibernation is enabled by default. All ACPI-compatible and most APM-compatible computers can be set to enter hibernation.
Because the contents of the computer's memory are written to disk when the computer enters hibernation, you must have at least as much available disk space as you have memory.
To disable hibernation
In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power Options.
Click the Hibernate tab.
Clear the Enable hibernate support check box.
Note
You must have the proper hardware to use hibernation. If the Hibernate tab is not available, the computer does not support hibernation."
Like I said, your hardware has to support it. My guess is that you don't have a ACPI-compliant BIOS.
