sorry if this is a repost. just FYI, this article was on wired and it reports on technology in cars. I guess you could call it the flip side of the technology coin that I usually don't see too much of online. I'm guessing because, as the article mentions, the auto industry tries to keep it hush hush.

Nothing he did -- stomping on the brake pedal, shifting the car into neutral, pulling on the hand brake -- stopped the Camry, which raced for several blocks before he swerved into a snow bank.

Anyone remember the killer Audi’s of the mid 80's. This is why "all" automatic trans cars now have that little lock out that makes you have your foot on the brake before you can come out of park. Fact was, it was a software glitch the whole time but Audi never admitted to it and blamed it on driver error. Here is the recall notice sent to owners.
