Car PC Status: Complete - Undergoing Software Redevelopment
It's time to revive this thread. After 6 months off, due to driving to Mongolia, it's time to resurect this project. So I've bought some more kit. Yesterday I picked up my Lilliput screen (629GL-70NP/C/T) for £173.90 from http://www.carcomputer.co.uk which is an awesome price. I also ordered a Opus 150w PSU (shuttle style) for £128 from http://www.customcarcomputers.co.uk which is also another great price. The OPUS has arrived this morning.
I started messing around with the touchscreen last night and am ok with it other than i haven't worked out how to double click yet.
My other bit of kit which should be arriving today is a Sony xa-300 which will mean I can plug my car-pc straight into my exisiting head unit. It also has an aux-out so even if I'm not using the pc a passanger can with head phones.
Does anyone remember who installed their slot load cd into the roof lining of their car?
Stevie, sorry I haven't replied but I haven't been around the forum in a while. I live in Harborne, right in the center of Birmingham, what about you?
It's strange coming back to this forum, its changed a lot.

I started my install this weekend. I've managed to rip out the centre console from my car and have run all the wires I need from the engine bay. I'm taking a clean 12v straight to the boot, and an ignition lead that can be switched manually, automatically with the ignition of the car, or remotely through a spare third button on my alarm. The only hard part in finding this output was realising it was a negative rather than a positive. It stays on for about ten seconds and I'm hoping this is enough to boot up an opus.
Also for those of you with E36s there are come grommets behind the passenger side footwell kick panels that lead through to the boot. One comes out below the battery, the only problem is you might have to drill through the sound protection.
I'll stick up some pictures when I can, now all I have to do is figure out how to mount the screen in the lower double din slot.

Good point, well raised.Obviously I meant the engine bay. Wish it did go to the boot though cause I'm still struggling to decide the best route to the boot for cables.

Best route is get a 6 pot![]()
I have an X5 and I run my cables down the center to the right side of the vehicle. The computer is the right boot.
Thanks for the tip enforcer, but size (cc) isn't everything, so I've been told. I am toying with the idea of installing a supercharger, but that project will have to wait until my bank balance is looking a bit healthier.
Thanks for the advice JPuma. I've run the cables down the center ridge. For anyone with an E36, here's how i did it.
In the coupe, the rear seats pop and lift out very easily. It's then easy enough to lift the carpets up a bit by going for the corners of the rear seat footwells. You can lift it enough to feed cables through.
Next task is to sort out some kind of mount for the screen. It needs to be secure and removable so that Ican put the centre console back together securely then insert the screen. Bit of a head scratcher this one. Other than that I'm fairly pleased with my install, it's going fairly quickly.
