The behavior of the power button is dependant upon the motherboard you use.
    This is not important.

I assume you are wanting to power on the PC when you disarm the alarm?

If that's all you are trying to do, you will need a relay. If you have an AUX output that can be used when disarming, use the relay there. If not, you might have to hook inline with the alarm speaker. If you do this, you will probably lose 1 half second of the sound it makes. It all depends on the relay you use.

Now to hook to the motherboard, you would take off the power connector on the board, and put the open switch of the relay there. When you hit to disarm, it will power on. If you hit to arm, it will power off, and depending on your OS, and power configuration (inverter directly to battery) it might even shut down.

If this is not what you are talking about, sorry....

So you want the PC to boot up when someone sets off your alarm?

    Interesting.....

I would like to know why you want to do that, as I may have to do it too.

Give me your details, IE what alarm you are using, and any other applicable info.

I dont think annyone realy cares about hte details of your security system ( not that I recomend teling annyone....) but still, they are all verry similar. talkto annyone that instals car alarm's. Anny one who is good with these things can disarm the system within seconds of seting it off. and if they are really god, they can usually get in without seting it off.

The only security system work puting in is a. lojack
    b. something that comes with an inshurence policy.

Why do you want to boot the pc when the alarm goes off ?

    precisely.

It will send my gps position onto the web and with webcams mounted take pics.. I guess i could set it up to boot a virtual screen too. . I can connect to windows and make windows operate servo's..

    possibilities are endless..

Sproggy made a circuit board diagram which can do it by the way..

Just gotta get it made next..

I saw a flas about some relay, but my modem is soooo slow, that i couldn't find any chematics. I'm going to make car DC-DC power, +5 VDC is done, but I'll need some kind of voltage riser cause 7812 regulators!
What do you say, do I need to make it so that voltageriser is on when computer is on, but car isn't(battery V=12V to ~15V AND when car is on (Battery V~14V) voltageriser is off ???

    Unhappy

    PLEASE READ!

On saturday I took my car to get lowered, when I got to the place i had to take my ENTIRE ICe out

it was lowered and it rubbed so it stayed there saturday, sunday nite.

on monday when they went back to my car the window had been smashed and tried to rip my LCD out. they failed
    TFT still there
    PC still there
    SUB still there
    AMPS (not sure yet)
    Battery still tehre
    Invertor (not sure yet)
I will give full damage report soon.

Looks like a 500$ alarm scared em off.. I pray

Reason for it being broken into, They wanted the "head unit" 40x4 which is in place of my head unit.. realising it wasnt a head unit well. u can figure the rest :P

    Bad cause it happened
Good cause not too much went.

if your willing to spend around 700$ on security, delocking/alarm/imobiliser like i was.. this is why it might be worth ur while.
