    Post members map?

people are always wondering if someone in their local area has an automobile computer setup.

    how about:

Have a webpage with large map of the world (or the US, Europe, Australia), with a small spot which represents where a member lives?

I am not that great at web writing so I dont exactly how you would implement this, but it would interesting

    just a thought

I'm sure I can do something like that. Maybe not a map (it would be too cluttered), but I can do a form where people can submit the hometown they live in, then people can search by country, state, city, whatever. If there is alot of people wanting this, I wouldn't have a problem doing it.

A while ago there used to be something like that on this very webpage. And now it's gone.

so you are looking for something like this I guess ?
    http://www.mp3car.com/registry/registry.asp

ok so it has not been updated in a while it looks like and it is not the best (no clickable map to get people in your area or anything) and no searching but it has been up there for a while (just no link to it that I could find on the main site)

Well I guess that could be a start. I guess the question would be what you want shown to the public. I see that one has license plates, which I doubt anyone wants it shown. I was originally thinking of having:

    Name (Nic or real)
    E-mail (optional)
    Web address (if any)
    Country
    State (provence etc.)
    City
    Zip Code (maybe)
Car Details (for those "I wonder if..." people)

    Anything else??

Cool, it does still exist, just not linked from anywhere. There used to be loads of links on the front page on mp3car (two columns either side of the middle picture, and then one day they just all vanished).

Hey, I was talking to Jose about this a couple weeks ago, I'd be willing to make a map of all the Mp3Cars around the world or a program that would sort ppl by location as well as total active members. I'm ready to give something back to this board

Well I started working on the code for this today. I think I have the major code done (form, search, view), I just need to come up with a general layout and navigation. Do people really want a map? It would be kinda hard to make a image map of all the countries, and then somehow link them to the submitted data (ie. USA=America=US... UK= United Kingdom), people don't tend to stick to the same format. If it is a major item people want then I guess it could be done.

I was also wondering about the zip code idea... Would area codes be better?

The design should be done by this weekend, at the latest early next week. Right now I am testing it on my MP3car usersite, I guess I should ask Moon if there is a special place we could host it.

P.S. I may need people to help go through the old members map to search for ones that are not current, and to submit good records to the new one. Any volunteers?

Well I finished most of the design tonight with the exception of the front page. If anyone has some suggestions, I will be happy to hear them. You can test things out and make your mark. If anyone just wants to test it out and not add real info, just make the name "test" and I will delete them later.

And yes the layout was inspired by Arby's inversed LCD.
