if you are going to do that, then why have a headunit at all? why not buy an FM-tuner and hook up the puter to an amp?
I'm not sure what area to put this in so I thought General will do.
Have any of you guys moved your faceplate off the cd receiver headunit and mounted it permenately eslewhere? Then just run cabling to the headunit? I can't remember but isn't there only (at most) around 10 pins?
Just a thought.. then you could put the unit under the seat and clear up some room for indash things.

it can be done, it is not too hard (also not the easiest thing) I have seen it done a few times
there are plenty of places that sell the wire u will need, after that it is a matter of time and patience...
Kain101: Do I need special wiring? Could I just run some ribbon cable after I find a connector that will work on both ends? It's a Kenwood deck and there are just 10 pins 5 on top and bottom I believe.

you can run ribbon wire... now all the ones that i have seen with the faceplate in one area and the main body in another had the wires directly soldered but, if you can find a connector 1.) more power to you, and 2.) let me know where u found it...
good luck, and remember to post plenty of pictures
