and no GPS
The challenge, satisfaction, and personal pride of building my own carputer, or the instant gratification of having all the features I want 'cept bluetooth phone control .... http://www.eclipse-web.com/products/avx/avx2494.htm
and it's $1300
If you want instant gratification for less, plus the ability to add GPS and other features, buy the plexi carputer in my sig
you should build a car pc because it's a hobby... so there shouldn't be a choice to be made.
i am a big fan of eclipse, if you dont want something you can tinker with go with that. if you want a new (and expensive hobby)...go the car pc route.
Eclipse has another version with gps navigation, but no hard drive. It's cool cause it has a dvd drive as well as a regular cd drive (leave the nav cd in while changing out your audio cd's with out having to go to the trunk). I really want to build my own car puter tho, and can do it for a lot less cost. I just recently got a new Mitsubishi Outlander that has the double din opening, and I just happened to be doing some research on a couple different Alpine head units til I build my carputer and ran across the eclipse decks.
That is sweet! I bet people can hack all the stuff that it doesn't have into it. Adding OBDII/GPS is probably easy if you can hack the OS. It's probably linux based - because it certainly isn't Micro$oft.
I think it looks pretty sweet... I just wonder about how hackable it is.
That's the selling point for me.
Not much of a car pc if its a limited and closed solution
