    sound card on home computer....

    so......

I have a turtle beach sound card in my computer at home....and out of the blue sometimes, it decides to quit working....or at least I simply get no sound out of my computer....

typically I will be on my computer, listening to music, then I go to bed, the next day, it won't play sound, and I've done nothing....wtf?

so....this doesn't happen all the time, just intermittantly

I try restarting, checking connections, updating drivers, and disable/enable

it shows up as working fine under the manager....but it's a no go for sound...

    any ideas?

is it a PCI card? Try taking it out, reboot then re install it.

well, it is a PCI card...

I was going to take it out and reinstall it, or better yet just go with the Chaintech that I had originally bought for the car....

but now, out of hte blue, it's working

I haven't done a damn thing different since I posted about it....

    so what gives?

is it just flaky and on it's way out or something?

how old is the card? its possible its just starting to get to old and going bad, its like some of the old network cards we have laying around they worked then they just stop then a few hours later it will work.

Try a different PCI slot... if that don't work, I bet the card is just dying...

    Do you have cats?

Just kidding. Make sure there aren't any programs muting any lines. Open up the sound manager and check the levels.

honnestly, being that the computer is 5 years old, I wouldn't doubt it if it's all of it going bad...lol

Sometime we miss the most obvious. It could have gone bad. Turtle Beach has very good cards. If you just want to replace it you can get a Santa Cruz for around $35 @ CC.

it's still working - so I'll keep it till it completely craps out...I have the chaintech sitting here that I originally bought for my car but wouldn't work for my set-up....I'll use it when it comes time....I'm not real big on bad *** sound from my home computer....I have other things to fulfill that need....lol
